The limit for stock swingshafts

I'm not looking to upgrade my swingshafts any time soon but I would really like to use the X-speed or the PNracing 70 turn racing motor. I'm not competing against anyone yet and I rarely have impact crashing.

Would the swingshafts be able to handle these motors?

Also does any one one what size shim to use on them?

Wink

no idea on the shim thing but with the 70t u should be fine for a while they will eventually break due to wear. anything faster than the 70t and they will just wear more quickly and break sooner

I am using the stock UJ from day one. No broken or problem during race even my UJ is safe on the 3 hour endurance race.

I just need to change it average every six months of wear n tear. Cheap n durable.

But it depends on people, I have few member braek the stock UJ on the 1st pack of battery with the stock motor.....

i think the titanium ones that are smooth as glass and very strong are like $20-$30 so that is not too big of an investment because they are durable and very smooth and u will probably spend that much on broken plastic ones in a year anyway

Alright so I went ahead and bit the bullet and tried the PNWC 70 turn motor in my AWD.

I dont like it that much,to me its meant for a rwd car. But the stock UJ's are able to handle it. I havent broke one bone yet or wore them out and I have had it for three weeks.

well the only reason we recommended buying metal swing-shafts is because after about a month mine broke but i was using a faster motor.

if u think that the PN Stock feels too much like an MR 02 motor then try the Atomic AWD Ball Bearing Stock that has more torque.

Stock shafts have the axle "glued" onto plastic and thats the only thing that holds them together. Fast or slow motor, that stuff won't last too long. I'd say get 3racing heavy duty shafts since they're cheaper than PN ver.2 and I heard work just as well.

Well I have had my stock uj's since I bought my 2.4ghz chassis in April. I have run it hard but maybe I am not running it hard enough for them to break. Who knows! I really dont want to break then anyway because that means I'll to upgrade to those RR outdrives for my diff's

Ive sanded the metal shaft on mine so I can slide my wheels off and on real quick and theyve got no slop to them.

So I have had these stock swingshafts now for 4 months now.

I have used the PNWC 70 turn motor, the X-speed motor and my stock motor and not one of my swingshafts have broken!I'll be trying some more motors soon that have some more torque to them and see what happens.

I find it's not so much power that breaks the shafts, but rather impact damage. I believe TJ used stock shafts in his PNWC-winning AWD Mod car with no issues, but many drifters break their stock shafts after clipping a wall with the wheels (myself included). The shafts are more for collision safety than power handling.

Outdrive cups on the other hand, are definitely necessary to handle anything more than PN Stock power.

That was the kind of response I was looking for when I first posted this.

I found a cool tick out with them. I don't know if any one else has had this problem with them but the stock swing shafts are pretty hard to press in after you put your bearings in your knuckles.

What I did is took some really fine sand paper and sanded the shafts down to where the black paint or whatever wasn't showing. When you do that they slide in so good, the wheel will go on easier and they look kind of cool too.
