Hi all,
My wife and I have been dealing with a family emergency since just before Christmas...spending way too much time at the hospital lately.
I finally had some time to starti a new helicopter project based on the Walkera CB100 platform.
It will be a scale MD500E CHP helicopter with Position Lights & Searchlight.
I'm just starting this build but here are a few preliminary pictures.
Color scheme on a die-cast CHP Huey for my CB100 CHP project.
MD500E scale fuselage and my custom CHP decals for my CB100 CHP project.
Parts for my MD500E CHP project.
First mock-up for my MD500E CHP project.

Sweet Hammer! Please visit us at HeliFreak.com!
I also got a Hughes 500 fuselage for my 450 size helicopter from KDS. It's from Align, and it comes pre-painted in a beautiful white with red/blue graphics. Also got a set of navigation lights from Heli-Artist to put on it.
Also working on my Walkera CB180Q Airwolf project. Switching from the orange fuselage to the black/white fuse. Nearly half way done with the project, just figuring out how to remove the pin that's holding the gear onto the main shaft.

Hi all,
I haven't had much hobby time lately but I finally had time to finish all of the structural modifications to produce a solid airframe and fuselage for my 202mm Walkera CB100 MD500E CHP project.
Now time to start the fun part, electronics!
A couple of pictures of the raw airframe and fuselage.
Regards,
John

Nice project there Hammer! I'm still working on removing the orange Airwolf from my CB180Q. Just fighting with the pin that holds the main gear onto the shaft. As soon as that's pulled out, I'm home free and I'll replace the orange Airwolf with the proper Airwolf.
I like that Hughes 500!

Hi all,
Still pretty busy with my business and family lately so my hobby time has been greatly reduced.
I did get over a big hurdle on my CB100 MD500E CHP project by getting the servos, linkage & main rotor head installed on the mockup before the final build.
How I know everything will fit and has room to work freely. I'm very happy with the way it is shaping up!
Regards,
John

Hi all,
Just another quick update.
I had time to finish the final flying weight mock-up including everything except the lights which are very negligible.
The flying weight including a 600mAh 15C battery is now 68.6g without the light system which will about 1.2g, so I'm looking at a final flying weight around 69.8g. A bit heavy but not too bad considering the complexity of this project.
All of this early work will pay off later...taking the time to adjust all of the elements at this stage is very important.
Here's a couple of videos my MD500E CHP Project Build Logs:

A couple of pictures of the final mock-up before the final build.
Now the fun REALLY begins after disassembly and the final build begins.
The next stage will be lights.
Regards,
John

Awesome heli there John and great video. Can't wait to see it all lit up. What color scheme are you going to paint it?

Hi marc,
Thanks, here's a picture of the color scheme I'm using from a die-cast CHP Huey.

Interesting, what's up with the red tails though? Doesn't seem to match the rest of the bird! Can't wait to see this thing finished John! Please post video of it in action at night, lights off in the room, lights on on the helicopter!

Hi all,
I've had a bit more time to work on my CB100 MD500E CHP project.
I've installed all of the Lights, 9 LED's, 8-0805 SMD LED's for Position Lights & 1-1.8mm LED for the Searchlight.
Here's the next two installments in my CB100 MD500E CHP Build Log.

I've been a bit inactive on this forum in the last 3 months or so, mainly becuase in my area the Mini-Z scene had given way to 1:12 scale indoor racing, but the MIni-Z RCP track is back.
In the meantime, I've been buying, building and generally putting a bunch of time in my mini helis. As mentioned before I already have a few Gaui helis, including a 200 V2 FES. So I wanted to get another, and got this 200 SE v2 on a great deal from the bay of E. It was complete as you see it here, the only thing I added/changed was the Canomod canopy and some new batteries.
The other heli is an EXI clone of the Trex 250, stuffed into a Fusuno Airwolf fuselage. The EXI is nearly 100% compatible with the Trex 250, with the possible exception of the base plate and landing struts. The Trex has a separate base, front and back struts and skids. The EXI base and struts are one piece. Other than that it looks like a perfect clone.
The Fusuno Fuselage is a great looking piece witha very nice finish. The only complaints a I have about it are the weight (135g) and the landing gear struts which are made of flimsy plywood.
By installing a bigger motor (HDX300), I was able to overcome the weight issue, and have enough power to lift a bigger battery as well. The current AUW complete with 1000mAH 3S LiPo is 502g.
So here are a few pics of the 2 helis. Just for fun, I thought it would be cool to show you these in 3D, so put on your anaglyph (red/blue) 3D glasses, and enjoy.
