4 degrees toe in bar on Hardwood floor

I run on a oval (PVC Pipes) 20' by 7' hardwood floor. It is very slick. I bought a used mini z with roll shock, torque control diff, and a 4 degree toe in bar. What are the advantages/disadvantages of having the toe in that much. I am sliding alot and wondering if I should make a change. Maybe 30 degree tires and take out the toe in? Any suggestions?

have fun!

hi,

for an oval track you do not need that much toe in, you dont need toe in at all.

I make sure that my diff is not too loose and also I would try 20deg rear and 30deg front.

In addition, I would work on my spring rates. since you are running on a very flat surface I and you are not making techincal turns I would try to see if your fron or rear is spining you out. Then change srpings acordingly to add more bite or loosen it up a bid. Roll shocks will not do you much good on an oval. Try hard srpings on the roll shocks.

also what body are you running? bodies with wide rear wheels handle much better in most occasions.

I hope this helps you =)

setup for rinning on hardwood

We host an in-school MiniZ program that is often run on slick gym floors. As such, we test for the best set-up on a hardwood floor that's very slick.

Forget all the springs, toe in etc. The single two upgrades you need are a ball diff, and more important, Reston Foam Tires. These tires are available at Tower Hobbies for about $4 and will turn your Z into a decent handling machine on even the slickest surface.

We have tried many of the so-called handling upgrades (toe in, camber, degrees of rubber, H Plate, shimming, etc. and whereas these can make a difference on the track, nothing will stop sliding other than the surface you are driving on or the tires.

Add the foams and your problems will go away. With 4 foams, Kyosho Ball Diff, bearings and carbon H plate our Z's can race on wood floors without spinning out. We also use 2 degrees camber and 1 degree toe in, but these settings are less important than you may think when running on wood. It's tires, tires tires. Here's a picture of the underside of one of our 'rental' Z's with the foam tires and the BPS bumper/body control system.
