Bringing back an idea to the table for RCP to go Carpet OPtion :)

I have heard some really cool things regarding a few tracks here in the US now using carpet instead of RCP. I am a huge fan of RCP. But sometimes, the bumps can cause small issues with consistency and smoothness. Not a big deal really, IMO, but then I heard that amazing quality tracks were opening using carpet tracks for Mini0Zs, namely Cruizin' in NJ and at the Kyosho track out west.

This is a post by RCPMini-Z from the "Racing Reports at Cruizin" thread, post #240:

"For those of you who enjoy racing on carpet, what would the interest level be if there was an additional option available to order an RCP Track with one side layered with a custom racing carpet. I can talk to the owners about the idea and see about manufacturing some of the more popular kits with the carpet surface option. Many years back, the factory had made a few sample tracks with a carpet skin for a customer, so I know they can be made."

I have heard great things about racing at Cruizin' with their new carpet. The only thing is, I don;t know what the carpet is made of or the manufacturer...

I am all for RCP developing a carpet "skin" of some type that goes over the RCP layout, thereby removing all the RCP's puzzle-like joints being a little off. Any idea RCP rep, if a carpet skin or carpet "upgrade" of some sort is something RCP is seriously looking into? I vote YES

I have yet to call Cruizin for the exact type of carpet used for the track there, but the racing results at the Cruizin carpet track is supposedly insane... . ANyone know what the name/brand of carpet Cruizin used to replace teir RCP track? Maybe there could be a way of combining the RCP track with a carpet "skin" thick enough to create a much more consistent, smoother surface?

I am not knowledgeable about Pro-level RC carpet tracks and what materials are used for tracks, except for OZite and Regupol. Please chime in if you have any ideas or knowledge about this idae... Thanks

i'm with you on it!

kyosho uses a standard Shaw Contract commerical carpet. they had the color choice which i'm sure was tied to sq.yd. of the order meaning your not going to get what you want unless you order enough of it. i've not had a reply back from kyo on what specific line they used as i have a couple shaw reps that come in my office all the time that i could bug for more info and or samples. i know they used a roll good but it may be available in tiles, as most commercial carpets are.

Are there any pictures or reviews of these sample tracks.

There really hasn't been much interest in a carpet version of RCP, since posting the first thread. Most would rather keep RCP just the way it is, with the only change being possibly a special edition track with different colors and option pieces. Kittrich has a special edition track in the works and should be available in a few months. Grey tiles, black straight rails and orange turn rails is one of the new features. The original color tracks will continue to be available. Kittrich also has some spare parts kits coming, so customers can purchase rails, tiles and PINS separately.

thumbs up on keeping it real...RCP!.... yes, carpet is smooth as glass if it is done rt!...but CHARACTERLESS !.... I for one like the CHARACTER of rcp... no 2 tracks are alike! like real racing! no 2 tracks will ever be the same!

I am very much looking forward to the special edition track! Keep us posted please on those

Interested in carpet as an alternative really. Options are great and if it's going to be carpet, I'd rather get nice tile layouts vs wide open roll capert tracks. Don't get me wrong, there are some really nice carpet tracks but for every nice one, you see many more unimaginative open course tracks.

I second that emotion to Grant!
RCP is more like real racing since no weekend is alike in many factors besides just a change in layout.

In my experience running 1/10 cars on carpet vs mini z on rcp, carpet tracks are way more different than rcp.. The main difference ive seen in RCP is some tracks are bumpier than others due to wear and new vs old tiles. I would rather have carpet so the surface is more consistent and you can be more creative with layouts, but thats just me. Or everyone do RCP like Maj's, where they have the best of both worlds (RCP surface, carpet layout freedom)
