Throttle Response using FETS
Hello guys/gals:
I've noticed that alot of users are using internal FETs ( MR-02 ) and external turbos ( MR-01 ). My question is what percentage on your radios ( KO's M8's ) is your throttle response set at ? I have a MR-02 that I just got FETs for and I notice that the throttle reponse is enormous. Hit the throttle a little and the car goes. I'm gonna have to drop down throttle response alot in order for me to drive the car decently on the track. What percentage do you guys/gals have your radio's set at ? Thanks in advance.
BTW: This webiste is awesome. Lots of helpful people and lots of information. Keep up the great work.

I just started dialing it back to 40% to start on fresh batteries with a 2X3 stack and an S03 using the iwaver controller. Then after 3-5 minutes of laps I turn it back up to 100%. Working pretty well for me.

I don't think on the stock controls there is a way to set the throttle response. That's the only reason I would like the iwaver tx. Yeah with new fresh batts and a fast car the throttle can be a bear to work with. I have just tuned my gearing and chassis to curve the power.

try installing a ball diff. It's quite expensive, but it handles better AND acceleration is much slower and more controllable with it.
How do you guys change throttle response on the iwaver Tx? it doesn't have expos.. you just decrease throttle travel? it supposed to influence the acceleration from standing?

Thx for the 411. I got a ball diff from GPM and it works great. I've messed with my KO Mars radio and I have the throttle set at around 60-70%. Question: What is a iwaver Tx ?

Yeah his car is alright, kinda slow, but what do you expect from a factory Mugen 8th scale racer.
HA HA HA! What up up big brotha Roger!
For real, Roger is one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. Not only that the man can drive, the guy can rail it. We know that Mini Z racing is pretty big in the East coast, the presence shows, but watch out were coming up. All in all good fun racing!

Thanks for the props Big_L. I have gotten bit really big by the mini-z bug. Usually during the winter season when 1/8th scale on-road season is over until March, I practice with my mini-z at various tracks in my area. Driving a mini-z at the speeds we drive them in is quite a battle in itself. Keeping you lines tight, passing lap traffic, and hitting the apexes on the track with a dialed mini-z is definately beneficial for any form of racing. Mini-Z racing has kept my reflexes sharp for racing 1/8th scale on-road and 1/10 scale nitro sedan.
Anyways, thanks everybody for 411. Here's another pix of my mini-z, enjoy.

On the new super duper $25 iwaver controller the bottom switch dials it back.

Hey Roger -
You must be the guy I met a couple of days ago with Larry over at Club28RC in Daly City. I'm Peter, also known as Nip/Tuck. Looks like your new MR02 is pretty slick. I use an M8 controller and turn the exponential throttle curve down to -40% or so, so that the acceleration doesn't take off too fast and this gives you a little more "throw" to work with at lower speeds. I couldn't tell what motor you installed from the picture, but my S04 is really torquey. The standard Club28 M'Z FET motor shouldn't take off so fast (44 turns instead of the S04's 35 turns).
Talk to you soon. Pleasure meeting you.

Maxfield: Hey Peter. Nice to hear from you. Your car felt really neutral when I drove it for the first time at club28. Larry told me that you just built that car. For a car that hit the track for its first time, it felt dialed. Anyways, I got my car dialed in for RCP surface, but i'm gonna start playing for a set-up at the club28 surface. Hope to see you there soon.

The car Roger was referring to is a new Mclaren MR02. Generally I go with the new adjustable GPM motor mount, soft springs, medium or soft Atomic SSG H plate, Atomic damper system, bearings, Kyosho ball diff, stock Atomic motor if no FET's or S04 if Fet'd, and 30 front/20 rear atomic ribbed tires or 20 vs 30 front with 10g atomic ribbed rear tires.
Hope that helps.
Roger,
BTW, I've been tweaking that car and now it's even better. I think you'll want to try it out next time we're on the track.
