I believe that would really depend on how Kyosho handles dealing with 3rd parties for a proprietary connection. If truly open, we could see just about anything. If they are tight with licensing, etc. then you likely won't see much expansion officially supported. It's only a matter of time however before the connection is cloned for unofficial support.

If Kyosho truly wanted an open platform, they would have used a standard connection and or provide template for 3rd parties.

It's far to early to tell just how well this will be received and or supported.

I don't know if this has been pointed out yet but i just saw an e bay listing for an RX board for the Evo....

$105usd.

I really hope that doesn't make a stock chassis over $300usd......

I saw the boards offered for around $80, with RX around $35. That listing is just marked up due to unavailability.

This is close to the pricing of the VE board when initially released.

Subscribed! Interested in learning more about this new approach Kyosho has taken.

Domestic pricing is naturally higher, it all has to be imported after all and everyone along the line needs their cut.

JPN pricing for the board and receiver are very reasonable and if all your interested in are the capabilities, makes sense just to buy the board, receiver and top cover. That is the route I’ll take as I have no need for more chassis sets. Just have to wait till the boards are available again and that they fixed the prgramming bug.

If someone doesn't need more cars - like you mentioned, is this the easiest and most affordable way to get into a brushless mini Z?

Im waiting for a board as well.

Although the pricing isnt bad for the kit, especially since you get a ball diff with it. It puts it similar to the VE, with more functionality and a $30 upgrade part out of the box.

If this is the new standard, how will this effect the box stock class?

Yes and no. You have to consider you are donating a (probably working just fine) MR03 to make this happen, and will have a leftover PCB. But, if you only want the one car, and your donor is a Sport with a crappy PCB anyway, then yes. I'm not going to bust out the calculator, but I'd guess you are saving about $100 vs. just getting a new brushless or EVO chassis.

Swapping a PCB isn't hard, especially if the servo motor and pot are pre-wired.

It is not a standard but an optioned chassis. The standard continues to appear with all RWD kits. It’s standard when ALL kits come with it.

If you have the necessary parts already, far cheaper to build what you want vs. parting out a new kit. Most don’t already have the gearbox, gears and pins which rounds out the steering component. Just about everything else can be build to your liking. I’m parting out an old Sports chassis for my build so the only new cost is the board, receiver, motor and top cover. I don’t care for Kyosho brushless motors so wouldn’t use it even if I bought the chassis set. They don’t resell easily either as they are quite expensive.

I you wanted to go 102mm on this chassis, can you just swap over to the standard MR-03 LM pod and damper plate? Or does the brushless motor require an entirely different pod?

LM pod and differential (LM diff is 4mm longer).

For brushless compatibility with the stock pods, kyosho motors work, but if you intend to race against 70t, you would want a 3500kv motor. The PN v2 works as does the GL-RACING 3500kv. The atomic won't work with the stock pods, only with pods that have screw mounts.

I have a PN 3500KV V2 in my box stock LM car and it performs very well.

Thanks for the clarification. I have a longer axle LM ball diff already.

I just ordered the GL racing 3500kv and the PN 3500kv version 3

The Kyosho brushless motors come with a "sleeve" that makes the can size the same as a brushed motor so it will fit in the plastic pods. The PN brushless motors are just the raw, smaller can, so need a screw-mount pod or the sleeve to use with plastic pods.
