Binding operations question

I have a MR-03 sport that I have used several times. When I went to use it last, for some reason, it was no longer bound with the transmitter.

I was unsuccessful binding it by following the steps in the manual. In fact, it got a bit worse. While it seems to be bound, the throttle is operating in reverse - when you turn the car on its full throttle and the motor stops when you squeeze the trigger. Also, the steering is turned hard left and will not center.

Going through the binding process in the manual doesn't change anything. Does any one have some suggested steps I can take?

I'm considering changing the board to use a kt-531 radio, but I would still like this sport transmitter and board to be working.

Try a reset of the transmitter.

To reset the transmitter:
(1) Turn off the transmitter if it is on.
(2) Make sure that the steering trim knob is at the center position
(3) Turn the G.SPD L (speed limiter, right side) knob fully to the counterclockwise direction.
(4) Position of G.SPD H (LED control, left side) knob does not matter.
(5) Turn the steering wheel to the fully right position and push the throttle away to the full-brake position and hold them.
(6) Turn on the transmitter. The LED should flash rapidly; this means you are now in the factory mode.
(7) Release the steering wheel and throttle lever.
(8) Turn the steering wheel fully to the left, right, left and right, and then release it.
(9) Pull/push the throttle lever to full-throttle, full-brake, full-throttle, and full-brake, and then release it.
(10) Turn the G.SPD L knob to the right most position. The LED should become solid.
(11) Turn off the transmitter and on it again. You are done.

Glad you got that sorted. It sounds like you may have turned it on in "factory mode" and changed the calibration... or that the radio lost calibration. I have no actual experience with the KT-19, so figured I would share what I had read.

Could be. I gave that car to someone else to run last week ( I use it as a loaner to people wanting to try out mini-Z) and that was how I got it back. Who knows what they may have done!

But at least we got a new racer out of it. He went out and ordered himself a car.

I am always willing to put a car into someones hands... usually, they enjoy it and are interested in doing it again. But, it is a large investment, which is why we have been trying to focus on having one cost effective class with minimal upgrades. Its also slower on speed, which makes it really competitive.

With these mr-03 cars, the trainer mode is nice for that purpose.
In fact, we have a trainer class for new drivers. Other classes require 3 cars to make a race, for Trainer, we only require 2.

We do at least one trainer mode race a night on club nights (we call it "50/50"), and it's often my favorite race. Because everyone is restricted, it really levels the playing field, and it almost feels like driving in slow motion. You are heavily rewarded for actually driving a racing line and never touching a wall, which I can do when only going half speed. This, plus the headlights is the only reason I keep and maintain an MR03 sport.

When we do the training mode races, we put everyone on the track, so maybe 8-12 cars at once.

We also keep a loaner car or two on hand, and if someone decides to stick around, there's almost always a used car within the club that shakes loose for a good deal.

I find that even after 17+ years, getting people to slow down to get better has remained an enormous challenge. It’s only been in the last couple years (post recession) that stock classes have popped up everywhere almost instead of the typical rush to build the fastest class possible. You see more of that up north than we do in the middle ground states.

Very true! Especially with the younger racers. They think the way to win is go fast. It takes a LOT of coaching for them to understand the way to do well is to not crash, and speed comes later.

Absolutely. Until around 2011 we never really drove a stock class around here. We had 70t classes with narrow bodies that has so much development in them that I would compete at national events in the open stock class with them.

While I do like having open tuning options, having the restricted stock class really shows the racers that these cars perform so well out of the box that it really isn't necessary at stock speeds. And having the open tuning options often spreads the field out. Less because the leader is going faster, but because people make mistakes with setup adjustments and run slower. It has quickly become my favorite class of racing on multiple levels.
