One of our new guys had a question I couldn't answer, so I'm posting it here.
He is wondering if Kyosho's KT-331P transmitter can be used with either of the MR-03 Mini-Z sport, or the MR-03 mini-Z?
This is the key term (copied from Kyosho's page for the KT-331P):
Quote:
FHSS system (frequency hopping system) 2.4GHz system.
and this from Mini-z Guide:
Quote:
FHS stands for frequency hopping system. The FHS is a budget radio. It came with the MR-03S or MR-03S2 sport series. The KT-19 radio is not compatible with ASF radio. The antenna is blue to differentiate it from ASF. The quality of the board is very poor, and unreliable. FHS is not recommended. Get the FHSS instead.
FHSS was the next version of FHS. The radio is KT-531P. These come in the current MR03 (RWD) and MR03-F (FWD) readyset. This revised version has a name change, and corrected a lot of the issues with FHS. Is analogus to Nikon changing the camera name from D600 to D610 when they corrected the oil issues on their otherwise ground breaking full frame camera.
So, it should work with the RWD and FWD, but not Sports or ASF.
I would state that it COULD work, but until it is tested, do not assume that it does. Kyosho has done some weird proprietary banding on the Mini-z in the past. If it does work, this might be the answer to RWD/FWD that want a small step up from the KT-531, but not break the bank with their high end radios.
This is one large issue that I have had with Mini-Z lately, there are no mid range transmitters. Something is needed around the $100 range with basic functions (EPA), and curves.
If I hadnt blown my RC budget, I would buy and try...
edit: looks like this TX is also discontinued...

Thankuou EMU
I knew you guys likely knew the answer
Hoped getting him just a new MR03 ready set Mclaran P1 ($139) on FHSS
would have allowed him to use his FUTABBA FHSS radio i bought him a few years ago for 1/10 short truck on the mini-Z
He is running my old upgraded MR02 car with ASF board on KT-18
and the KT-18 is a pain with its throttle delays
His Kt-18 experience has me shy on pulling the trigger and using the KT-19
My now very old (16yrs) airtronics M8 with 2.4 miniz module / adapter board and old ASF boards work great on my MR03.
He may have to drive the MR02 longer with the Kt-18
Sports series or RWD/FWD/AWD? I would avoid the KT-19 and sports series if possible as the latter RWD/FWD/AWD blend with the KT531P, this much preferred over the previous generation.
As Arch said. Avoid the sports. The RWD/FWD/AWD models are good, but sports is inferior to the MR02 electronics in every way.
The issue with reverse delay is not with the transmitter, but with the first generation asf electronics. This delay was removed for the most part on mr03. You could look into updating the electronics to mr03 grade...

I was looking at kit kyo-32332w
Mclaran rwd. mro3
And converting it to mm
Since I know the setups from my mr03
Hfay/ mod classes
And just put a more durable white body on it
And send him off raving in a stock motor class
With my old batteries till he gets more consistent
That kit Comes with the kt531p radio
FHSS but was hoping his Futaba FHss worked.
Since it had trims/ epas dual rates
Emu says it will not work
Saves me a night of frustration failure in trying to bind it
Thank you
Either way seeing miniz life pop up again in Atlanta
Has my son excited
It’s got him off fortnite for part of the day
The hfay track is now cleaned off in the basement and we are running a set of batteries together every day. And he’s killing a set practicing while I am at work
He’s chomping at the bit to race on the next Sunday his baseball schedule allows
Cars are up and running/ now to find ilaps software not on a cd
As my lap counter setup was on a laptop that died and my new laptop does not have a cd drive. I get that running and I can host club races or hfay events again possibly
The McClaren GTR Long Tail is often my recommendation for anyone looking to get a kit. Add $10 bearings, and a disc damper and the car is good for some hfay or light stock class action at a lower cost than just about any other kit. It is MM configuration already, so any MM body will work.
