Does new NiMH batteries lose their charge if not charged for the first time?

I'm from Brazil and I went to USA in 2015 and I bought a couple packs of R1Wurks AAA batteries. But I never have used, never opened the package. So i've decided to sell them here.

But the buyer is telling me their are not getting charged. Do the NiMH go bad after over 1 year in storage if never charged?

They will lose voltage in storage. Should be able to charge them after raising their voltage a little above the minimum voltage seen by the charger.

What charger is being used?

He's using a Hyperion charger. I don't know the model.

Are the batteries being charged in series or parallel and at what charging rate?

I know this is old but my Lacrosse charger sometimes reads NULL if I let batteries drain to low.

Here is how I have raised the voltage to get the charger to read:
-Use an old aaa charger from the 80's that will charge them no matter what. Not sure this thing even has a max cut off so I only use it for this purpose.
-Use another good aaa and jump it in series to the 'dead' battery. Once the charger reads that battery (both together) you can take the wires off and the 'dead' battery should continue charging.
