About 2 years ago, I did eventually upgrade from my old Mars to a Kyosho Synchro EX6. Basically a MHS/ASF version of the Ko Propo EX2, which I believe is MHS/FHSS (and not ASF). I believe now the EX6 and EX2 have been replaced by the RR version where the Kyosho one is MHS/ASF and Ko Propo is MHS/FHSS. I think the old Mars with module are still fine radios IMO. I know several that still use these. I used a friends Eurus, and it was pretty heavy.
The benefits I've seen so far are a much lighter radio, that uses 4 AAA batts, or a Lipo. Also you can utilized the faster MHS modulation for the brushless VE PRO chassis. I've seen a few of the Synchro EX6 used in the $175-$200 range at auction, and I think the newer RR version is north of $300.
I am still using my trusty old helios, with no plans on upgrading for mini-z electronics unless something happens to the radio. For new cars that are not ASF, I use aftermarket electronics with a SANWA rx and tx.
My opinion is that faster electronics do not necessarily lead to faster lap times. Familiarity is more important to me than transmission speed.
