Upgrading the M8 battery pack?
Hello folks,
I own an Airtronics M8 controller with a standard 700mAh battery pack.
I'm not very pleased with the current operating time. So I've opened the battery pack to see what kind of batteries are in there. They seem to be AA's in size. The label on the battery pack says it's 700mAh, but does that mean the batteries are only 700mAh each? 700mAh for an AA battery is very low for todays standards. I would like to putt some new Sanyo 2100mAh batteries in there to extend the operating time a bit.
Possible?, impossible? or already done it? I would like to know, thnx.

...Hmm, should have gone with (a).

I'm using regular AA batteries in a tray that goes into my M8. I'm using NiMH 1800mah AA batteries that will last for about 10-12 hours I think. I'm glad that I'm not using th 3PK though, that one eats batteries with it's huge display.

Minten, do you have a special battery tray or did you modify the stock one?

It was the tray that followed the radio and I didn't have to modify it at all to fit 8 AA cells in it.
When I have to charge I simply put my cells in the regular charger for the car cells. My GP Smartbank takes both.

Interesting, I have a different one. Mine has the batteries soldered into the pack. Does your pack have a connector for a trickle charger? Mine does, and if I upgrade the batteries then I could still use it. It would be slower then taking the batteries out and putt em into a fast charger like your GP smartbank but it could still work I guess.

As you said yours is probably different.
If I remember correctly I do have a connector on the batteryholder. I'l see if I can take some photos and find a productnumber on my pack when I get home.

That would be great, I can't take pictures but I'll look for the productnumber too, thanks!

Hi,
Its easy to replace the batteries inside the stylus pack, Just take out the old battery & solder a new 1. You mentioned about the charger, since your putting in a 2000mah bat, that means longer charging time unless you use a peak or fast charge. If i where you just buy the airtronics M8 battery holder & save your stylus pack. Here's a link http://www.shopatron.com/product/pro...28.133.242.0.0 I hope this helps. BTW you can also plug your charger wit this holder.

err, NO! It actually last very long, I can get three full days of racing without recharging. Isn't the display on the M8 bigger then the 3PK??

Many thnx for the link pchan0, I'll order one right away!
Well the order has been placed, this is a fantastic upgrade! I could go to the track without taking an extra charger for the M8
Your right pchan0, the M8 has the biggest display compared with the 3PK
I made 2 pics of the battery pack for anyone interested.

The M8 typically comes with a standard battery tray where you can put in regular AA batteries. There is an optional M8 that comes with the charger and the rechargable pack like you have. I see that Mini-Z Fan already posted the link to buy it and it's only $12 so pick one up. There are 2400mAH NiMH cells out there now in AA so get some of those and you will certainly have a much better battery life.
I run a KO Propo radio which takes less juice than the power hungry M8 and I am still running 2 year old 1600mAH cells and I can go for about 3 full race days.
