AWD and MR02 What parts are the same. plz help a noob

Hi

I am new to this whole mini-z concept and decide acouple of days ago to invest in one.

I can't seem to decide if i want a AWD or MR02

My friend has a MR02 he can sell me with some extras like tires, better engine etc.

if i buy that and just a new awd chassis can i use the same radio, tires, better engine and body and then change it every month or so etc.

i would like to know which parts are the same also.

or should just stick to one car. if so help me decide which one. want to drift but i want to be able to race my friends who have MR02.

is rly awd muh slower then a mr02

thanks
Simon

If you can get in with a decent used MR02 that is not a bad idea. It's a little costly to jump in with everything new from the start. But at least you will know that everything is in good shape.

as far as parts taht are interchangable, basically just tires and motors. Some of the bodies are also but that kind of depends on what setting you are using. AWD bodies can be 94mm or 90mm and MR02 bodies can be 98mm 94mm or 90mm. There are exceptions but at this stage in the game, that's plenty to deal with.

If you get an AWD I would recommend the chassis set anyway. The skyline bodies are not so great for racing and with the chassis set you get a ton of wheels that you can use for different bodies. Along with lengths, the bodies are different widths and you will need different wheels to fill them out and it will also really effect the handling.

So, if you want new and you want to drift, I would say...

AWD Chassis Set
Body of your choice (we can make some recommendations for good race bodies)
Beg for a free controller on the forums
Get some 20 degree wide tires
and beg for a free crystal set or buy the xmod crystal set

If you want to go cheap, get your friends Mini-Z.

The AWD isn't really that much slower. It's a little harder to setup as a good racer but in the end it will come down to racing skill. You can definitely get an AWD to perform well, but I don't even want to think about how much I have put into mine to get it to a nice controllable fast stable predicatble racing machine. BUT, you can still do pretty well with it close to stock...and drifting is awesome!

Not 100% sure, but i think the servo gears are the same, but that's about it for the internals. You can use tyres from any on the awd as they are the same diameter. My preferance is to stay with the stock 30* tyres for the awd though as this seems to work best on my RCP.

there's really only one person I know who's got the reflexes to drift an mr02 so if you want to do both(drift and race) but only buy one car...AWD.

It's better to have both though...
