Hmmm.....is the F1 ESC worth the money...well in my case it was not an upgrade as much a replacement...in my early days of teaching myself to replace FETs I managed to rip a couple of FET pads off the board,...i sorta got it working again, but was never happy with it again. So I got the F1 ESC instead of the Racer ESC. From a true racers point of view the brakes would make a diff I reckon...expecially with a hot motor...but if your PCB simply need FETs, I would not worry about it unless you have $ to burn, or REALLY want brakes. I do prefer having brakes, as I also use a 1/10 gas car which has brakes, so my throttle finger is sorta trained to hit em hard, and doing that with a racer with forward/reverse only can be frustrating. Hmmm....ultimately up to your budget vs desire

Floopyb,

I highly recommend Psyklops work on FETs, and whilst MysterE is also a class FET installer, Psyklops is right here in Melbourne so it won't cost ya anything for shipping.

floopyb...

hmm... what motor were you running? was running one of my z's with a mzr.com motor - (the one that doesn't require a turbo) last night.... and i noticed that it wasn't going as fast as my other z's which also have the mzr.com motor in them....

after a while it got really slow, and totally stopped... picked it up and something smelled like it was burned...

my fears were confirmed when i took off the cover, flipped the board, and saw one of the fets kind of 'not normal' there was a very slight bulge, and it seemed like the smell came from that particular fet...

re-assembled it and whallla... no forward... i guess you can welcome me into the club...

i'm quite astounded/dumbfounded since i've never experienced this with my other z's that have the same motor in them....

now i'm beggining to wonder....

wanted: extra fets... or used turbo...

Aww shucks Mystacool ...thanks for the compliment!
But MrE remains the Master in my books...too many innovations in stacking techniques...mine are either a direct copy of his, or just a generic straight up stack at this point....

mystacool...

yep i'm surprized myself too.... actually i'm really carefull with my cars... and thus far this is the first time i busted fets...

i'm lead to believe it could be the motor (mzr.com motor that doesn't require a turbo)...

floopyb...

you still haven't answered my question on what motor you were running... were you running a mzr.com motor too?...

Clearly it's possible to damage the FETs with any motor, just try holding your rear wheels and pulling the trigger for a while, it will cause damage even with an X-Speed.
