The stock plug was one stack with an insulator between the two fets. The 2X6 was side by side. I cut the heat shrink off the stock one for the pic. It was heat shrinked as you see it with the insulator installed between the 2 fets.

Yeah, this is great!
Would it cost much more to get someone to do this than to get a direct stack?

msyko, you can actually use 1 connector that has 8 wires to connect 2 stacks to the pcb.

So there is no downfall to doing this way? Ie. lag, overheating, etc.

after i get my z able to handle well i'm going for speed and i might do it this way.

MysterE you are right. You only need to put 8 wires to the board. You can run the engine wires rite to the fets. Had to think about what you meant. Might try that on mine. Can get a much smaller 8 pin connector. I was trying to keep it simple. Most people don't have connectors on there engines for a quick change. With the 10 wire set up to the board, people can change their engine the normal way.

I have been running this setup for a month now. Raced it last weekend. No problems yet. There is no lag. If you have lag there is something wrong. Either you did not get a good connection when you did the soldering, or one of your fets is bad. I ran the car for 5 minutes in both directions when I made the mod and the fets stacks did not heat up. On the cars that I have seen with lag. One stack will get to hot to touch very quicky. Mostly I see it in reverse. Most people dont care to much about reverse, so they don't worry about it. I saw a guy here at the shop with lag in reverse hold it to long in reverse. Lots of white smoke, then the top fet glowed like the end of a cigrette(very cool looking). Lag is bad. Holding the trigger to long in that direction with burn up a fet(s).

mysko: where did you get the 10 wire plugs, i am interested in doing this becuase i want a pro-z with an internal turbo but i also want a normal z without a turbo. they dont look like something my local raido shack has, i would be willing to buy a few connectors off of you if you want.
thanks

if you want to email me: antonc@cstone.net
