Minimum hopups, maximum performance
Hi guys, need your input on this one.
I'm aiming at using minimum hopup parts & weight and getting maximum performance out of my car, and using it to race, most likely on carpets.
At the moment the only part on my 2002 NSX is the Kyosho Roll Shocks because I feel the need for it (and it did help) and also some modifications to the front suspension travel.
The no-brainer for next upgrade is bearings of course, and then motor... and tires..
Ball Diff? If performance outweighs the weight to the rear..
Heatsinks? Does it really make a difference to the motor's cooling and improve performance? Probably not a neccesity
I might change to the o-plates if they really do replace the roll shocks and for weight savings.. if only they sell those here
So what kind of setup do you think I need for minimum weight & parts and max performance/traction? I'm also looking for minimum spending btw..
So let's hear your suggestions! Appreciate your help on this.

ACtually I'm thinking of removing the entire window plastic to accomodate the transponders for racing. Only way to fit them is thru the windshield. Great cooling too..
But I also want to make it so that the window can be put back when not racing.

I'm thinking:
Ball diff. (kyosho or MZR)
BB's
O-plate
A motor
heatsink(motor)

My thoughts...
bearings (of course)
stiff h (or O) plate
15-20 degree (or foam tires are good for carpet you could also use traction compound) tires
ball diff
no:
heatsink
roll shocks
alloy parts (except ball diff)
removing the windshield will aid in cooling (hence no heatsink)
H or O plate (stiff) replaces roll shocks and less weight
ball diff is my personal preference, I like driving with it...
I'm not sure but I don't think there is a way (without having to glue back on) to remove the windshield and put it back intact.... someone else can probably help you out there....
That's about it... good luck!

I tried a stiff h-plate, it didn't work very well, becase the car is too tail happy especially over bumps . I installed the softest cf h-plate and the roll-shocks did the job very well during corners while still keeping the rear wheels planted during bumps (small uneven carpet bumps). The roll shocks even helped with getting the car oversteer slightly on carpet, a handling characteristic I'd like to have.
Never tried the o plates, but i hope my shop will be stocking some soon and try them out and see if it can replace the roll shocks. Hoping somebody who's tried both the roll shocks and o plate to tell if it has any similarities.
As for sticking the windows, I'm thinking double side tape or those stationery putty .

For my kyosho restricted race car, I just get:
Bearings, Med H bar, used 25 front tire, used 18 wide rear tire.
that's it.

Removing windows
I did this to accomodate the 5th cell on my NSX, and it was a simple matter of popping up the 4 points on the inside of the shell...you'll see what I mean...the whole section pops out, and can be stuck back when desired with CA.
Oh yeah, and an O-plate, Ball diff (NOT Topcad..they suck from what I have seen) and bearings are essential IMO

i have a thought for the windows....
why dont u cut a hole in them 2 fit the transponder and then when u take it out u will have a air hole so the air can go in2 and cool the motor, and also for the side windows you could cut them out but leave a boarder and leavea thicker boarder on the sides of them and folde the front part in and the back part out so the air gets captered..... this is mainly used for petrol racers so the engin can cool, but my dumb brother hasnt done it yet but i keep telling him...
o well just a thought.....

This also can help with performance. LOWER your chassie. You can put small (I have nylon) washers under your front knuckles and between your O/H plate and motor mount and it will lower the car body. This will help with turning (lower the center of gravity) and is a cheap upgrade. I am running the CLK with one washer under the front knuckles and 2 between the H plate and motor. It lowered the back end more than the front but at high speeds the front naturally goes down and I "had" a problem with spinning out. (like to go fast in the turns ) and it has helped me stay glued to the track. Just an idea.

I've already got a hole on top and planning to put a scoop over it so air would go in. Don't want to cut my windsheild . I want to retain a car that at least for show too..
As for lowering.. the NSX is low enough as it is. For the front that is. As for the back end.. perhaps can lower a few more mm... but overall the 2002 NSX is low out of the box.

Tango, do you use transponders or another system?

You mean the lap counting?
We got a modified Kyosho sensor system here in most races.

I'd defenitely get a ball diff, probably MZR as long as u get ceramic ball deluxe edition whatever u call it lol, get foams, front spring (powerline=SUPER CHEAP SPRINGS), A-BB Motor from shop, polished king pins (powerline extremely cheap), dry bearings, o plate

Check this out. I've posted this in the galleries section before. It's made tremendous imrpovements to the front end handling for some reason. For less bumpy carpet / wood I put in another set of washers, for bumpier carpets, i use this setup, or remove the second set of silver washers, leaving the purple one.
The original intent was to stop the wheels from rubbing inside the fender, but these work wonders when it comes to handling...
This naturally adds weight but the difference in handling far outweights the penalty to weight and wallet!
I'm thinking of trying the shortened springs or softer ones from mechanical pencils.
Cannibalised parts from my old Tamiya. Pardon the carpet fibers all over the chassis.

Btw, that pic was before i lost the yellow donut alloy part at the antenna I miss it.
