Plug in FET Mod
With this mod I can use the same car for stock & mod and just change the fet stack. Rite now I have a stock stack & a 2X6 one. Quick change, can go from stock to mod and back on the track in less than a minute. The plug is idiot proof so the stacks can only be plugged in one way. Just need to remember to change the fet stack when I put a bigger engine on.
Pic 1 2X6 installed stock just sitting on back for show.

Sorry, tried to add all pics in one post. Thought I'd seen it done before.
Pic 2 wires and plug coming up from below board.

I remember this idea was brought up before, but I think yours is the first I've seen like this!!! That is GREAT!! I love it I was away from the forums for a little while so it might have already been done, but wow, you rock man!! Great job

so msyko, did you have to make that detachable fet stack or did you order it that way? if so from where? is it hard to install?
i'm new to this

Great stuff minizmaniac!!! Where did you find the harness? Do you think that the wires may impede current flow at all vs. direct mount on the board? Great work!

I made the stacks, they are a one of a kind. The stock one was made from the two fets I removed from the board when I made the mod. The other stack was made from upgrade fets. I race mini-z's every Sunday and some guys only have 1 car. If they want to race in the mod class and use a bigger engine than the X-speed they were out of luck. There is not enough time to add an external turbo to the car between classes and if they upgraded the fets, it was not stock anymore. See the problem. With this mod they have the best of both worlds.

I don't think the wires will effect anything. Thought of that when I was doing the mod. Before I put the heat shrink over the fets I ran the car for five minutes and the fets never heated up. It runs great with the stock or 2X6 stack.

I made the harness. It is from a 10 wire ribbon cable. You only need 5 wires per stack. On the fet, legs 1,2,3,4 each get a wire and 5,6,7,8 are commom so you can add the same wire to all four legs. Legs 5,6,7,8 face the engine. You can make a wall of solder on those legs if you want and add the wire anywhere. That side does not have to be pretty and the legs can touch on that side.

Here is a harness that I have not used. The wires on top were a little short to add the fets stacks, but the the bottom half will go into my overlander this week.

great idea i was just thinking of doing something like that with an external turbo but i dont have the soldering skills YET now you could theoretically have as many FETs as you want with no restriction becasue of space

very very nice work, i am inspired, i can see a solution to my problem of working with limited tools. is the stock one a dual stack side by side or just one stack for fets one one top of the other. if so what differences in wiring. i think its a great idea, i have NML motor waiting for the stack, perfect for outdoor, but would be too fast for indoor racing which ill be doing as well. so a quick motor and fet change would be sweet.

now the next step would be to have a plug in PCB and so if you had 2 or more different chassis such as a pro-z you could only need one PCB.
i know it is not needed but it would be cool to brag about lol
