Cheap Micro RC with quality Transmitter?

I bought 2 cheap micro RC's at the WRAM show and was wondering why I couldn't control them with a real AM transmitter.

One was 40mhz so I don't think that will work but the other was a 27mhz so I opened the included junk transmitter it came with and removed the frequency crystal and installed it in a couple different AM transmitters (losi, and 2 diff Perfex AM )

It didn't work so I put it back to original condition.
If its 27mhz and I use the crystal shouldn't it work?

Thanks

Some no name brand from china, they were cheap but they perform well enough that having a couple on the small rcp track makes for some even racing. I just wish I could use a pistol transmitter.

They are a little smaller than a Dnano

I tried to do the same thing with one of those little helicopters you can buy at Toys'R'Us, the problem I think is the fact the flat crystals some of these little toys have are just not compatible with standard crystal radios.

OT: Stick radio for life! (from someone who refuses to use pistol type since birth, lol... and currently trying to move from a Futaba Attack II to a 3VC for Mini-Z.)

those are toy RCs (I have 3 of those too)... that are not really compatible with hobby grade tx. those are not digital proportional type.

the signal given out by hobby grade tx is not the same as those controllers even if they have the same frequency.

the steering of those cars are magnetic actuator type and not servo. the motor also have a forward-no power-reverse only functions and never a proportional type.

if want to make that work with your regular tx you will need to hack it and convert them... like the one done here by EQMOD - http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35831

I'd just invest in the new HPI cars for some fun racing. They're still hobby grade, but won't burn a hole in your pocket.

Yes, looking into 2 of those. The ones I posted about were something my 9 year old picked out at the WRAM show for kicks.

We are having a blast with them on our mini-96 track. I just wish I could use a real transmitter while they are in stock form.

We are averaging 14-15 laps each in 3 minutes. I usually get 35-40 laps in 3 min with my mr03, and he gets 20 -25 with his mr02 (he is getting much better, I'm sure he will hit the 30 lap mark in a couple weeks)
