We have a sudden influx of about half a dozen silver Saubers in our club. BladeSling had a white body that needed doing.
The lighting makes this look silver, but it's Model Master enamel Pontiac Engine Blue. The top is Tamiya enamel Racing White, and the spoiler is Model Master Acrylic Fluorescent Red. I also used Molotow liquid chrome, and some Tamiya acrylic semi-gloss black. Tamiya acrylic clear coat.
This body sits really high if you don't carve into the side clip mounts. And then if you get it to sit right on the chassis, there's not enough clearance for an oil spring. So I made a little clearance hole.
As usual, I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to being patient. I know very well how long things take to dry, but I rush it anyway. It still turned out pretty nice, and should be easy to spot on the track. It will look better with the Racing White painted wheels, but I gotta let bladesling mount his own tires, he's picky about that.
Home brew water slide. Testor's decal paper. I used both white (numbers) and transparent (everything else). I have a Canon Pro9000 MkII inkjet printer. The decal paper is 5.5" x 8.5", and I usually split one of those into 3 smaller sheets the the printer will still handle. I'm almost out of my 15 yo can of the decal clear coat.
Ah, ok, makes sense. Getting white decals is tricky if your not using white paper or have a printer that prints white. I had the pro9000 at work for the better part of a decade. It was very dependable and great photo quality and supported large paper sizes.
I like the blue/silver. Looks very vintage Porsche for some reason. Could be a nice neutral background to some of my livery choices as well
Yeah, I came real close to buying an ALPS printer that could do white and metallics, but the only way I could justify it was to go into the decal business. I'm already intimately familiar with the expense and maintenance of a Canon inkjet, and ALPS is like 4x the $$$.
I have done some insane X-acto cutting of the white paper to use as a base under a transparent decal layer to get that look, but it's a real pain for non-rectangular decals.
