Koenig Specials Competition
Hello there. I decided against the Miami Vice Testarossa cause I figured anybody can do that! I thought it would be more challanging to do my all time favorite super car, the Koenig Specials Competition. First step is to sand off the Testarossa lines.
Then add the filler, in my case, I prefer Bondo.
Bondo dries a hell lot faster than that white putty which seems to take three days to get hard enough to get any work done. Second, I think it'll be tougher for racing. It's easy to sand, shape, and paint.
Don't worry, it WILL look UGLY before it looks good!
I thought I could use the wing off the Ferrari F40, but it proved to short for the Testarossa. So, the wing will have to be scratch built from balsa wood, filled in, and blended in.

More sanding, more bondo.
The Koenig Competition is wider than the stock Testarossa. So that is the reasoning for adding all this filler to the sides of the car.

More work.
You can see I've cut out the headlights. Will be scratch-building the buckets and useing smoked sheets of plastic for the headlight covers. You can see the Fujimi model kit in the background.

When time for paint, I was thinking of a nice dark blue. I think it's called Cobalt blue but not sure. I've seen this Koenig Competition painted in this color before. It's really nice. Might be midnight blue, but it's more blue than black.
Here is a photo of the color I'm talking about. It looks a bit black, but is not.
This is the convertible version of the same car.

What color do you think I should paint this car? Red, white, dark cobalt blue?

A lot of sanding, and wet-sanding helps too!
Little by little get's the job done.
Then it'll be time to start the other side! I've read somewhere it is actually easier to do one side first, then do the other, instead of trying to do both sides at once.

Nice work so far, wish more people did work logs like this.
In regards to the putty you could try to use green stuff(games workshop) instead if you find it unworkable before its dried. its flexible and very good for model work where you want to put in details which can be quite hard to fill in
later on and its quite strong.
Looking forward to next update

I'm thinking maybe making it convertible might solve some issues I'm having. Such as building the side intakes and rear wing. Maybe I should build it just like the one in the photo. Might be easier for me in the long run. What do you think?

Looking good so far, marc. Keep us updated on your progress.
Keep in mind that dark colors will sometimes hide body lines and such, but it can also hide small imperfections. If you do paint it the dark cobalt blue, it'd be amazing to look at with a really smooth coat of clear on top.

I've discovered a trick a while back while modifying a Fujimi Honda CRX si body with bondo. After you've sanded it as smooth as possilbe, there is still little dimples and what not that you can't see. CA gap filling glue if applied carefully can provide a glass-smooth surface over the area. Then prime, and paint! Yes, I will be clear coating it.

Well, off with it's head!
I decided to make it into the Competition Comfort. That's what they call the convertible version. I will be making it like the one in the photo to save me from scratchbuilding the wing and side air-intakes.
I decided to leave one side window closed!
You can see from this side, how far I have to go with this project!
I think if I can get the Copen body from the Mini-Z Lite, I can use it's driver in this one. Since the Lite is supposedly the same scale, but smaller cars, I think it'll work.
Now, I will need to make the rear cover for it.

Looking good, maybe try to get hold of the driver from the shelby cobra?
Hope you go for the color in the picture and same kind of rims would really look amazing on that car. Maybe try to define the air intake to help define the side better for further work?
Else not sure if you can do it with bondo but water on your finger or sculpting tool makes it easier to shape the putty and define it,makes your work sanding it down easier. But sure you knew it already

When I apply the bondo, I apply it with finger for a smoother application. I hope to be able to get a particular set of Tagu wheels which will look best for this project. I'm looking at the AH-562008 model of Tagu wheels with the Enzo offset as I think that's what I need for this. I didn't know that the shelby cobra had a driver, are you sure? I thought it was just a roadster with NO driver. I know the Copen has one, but concerned about it's size. I thought about 1/24 scale drivers, but might be too big.

I thought of using the Cobra driver for mine, but he's made with that helmet on his head. This is looking good so far, just one question. What grit sandpapers are you using to sand that down?

My shelby cobra roadster came with a little driver. He has a little helmet on his head. Dunno if the US version is different but doubt it.But you could propably buy a figure or two from Carrera in this scale if that doesn't work for you.
if you got a little model knife you could try to use it on the bondo to define edges etc better.Should be less work. Else if you have a local games-workshop they got a sculpting tool that is really neat for the kind of work your doing there.
The wheels look good, not sure if they set off a Koenig right though, maybe look on the interceptor or cosmic 2 shown on ts-tuning?
Love your project, so far keep it up.
