There is no tamiya motor that you can justput in the Z and go... even the ones that are "safe" for the electronics, need the cheap brushes changed to better ones... just buy an X-Speed, the tamiya motor is basicly the same as the X-Speed...
If you have FETs/turbo, you can go up all the way to the Hyper Dash 2 (35 turns). Don't try anything hotter, or the tracks on your PCB will melt.
If you are running the stock FETs, the Atomic tuned (45 turns) is near the limits of the FETs. Some ppl used it on their stock Zs and burned the FETs, others have no problems. YMMV
Like Drac said, change the copper fingers that come with the Tamiya motors to carbon brushes.
