I think that is an old release item. Might have been one of the first upgrades for the AWD. Never heard anyone talk about and would guess because its metal. HEAVY stuff. Might be good for some kind of an AWD monster truck conversion

Thanks for the quick reply Madf1man, yeah in this scale weight is everything. Gotta balance bullet-proofness (is that a word? lol) and weight consciousness with these Mini-Zs!

I'd still think its a good part... looking for a set for each of my stock diffs now... especialy since I just striped them out lol.. so far I dont like any of the ball diffs... which would weigh just as much...

Most balldiffs can't handle high power...they slip a lil bit and then a lil bit more...and then they burn up...

They dont look that well made if you look at the center spider gear. The imperfection might even make ur diff jam.

Id rather have a ball diff. Adjustable, and I rather have the ball diff slip than to have the power taken out on the rest of the drivetrain.

The Atomic balldiffs are buckin(thats means good). We have used them for months with no trouble at all. Minor adjustments maybe. If I am not mistaken there are few sets of them at the PN's right now winning!

Disagree. Look at all of the 1/10 scale cars and they all use ball diffs. My FET mod MR-02 has a ball diff as well and it handles big power just fine. It doesn't mean they are necessarily maintenence free, but pretty tough overall.

I guess on the AWD, most of the guys around here run gear up front and ball in the back for durability. I think there is much to be said with how much power we are putting down in a much smaller area than the bigger cars.

There are no gas or nitro 1/8 scale and up cars/trucks I've ever seen or heard of running balldiffs...the reason is that they can't handle the power without slipping and burning themselves up. Same thing in 1:1 cars...no balldiffs. If a geardiff 'slips' it turns other gears, balldiffs drag the balls (without rotating) across the diff rings gouging a groove in the rings...
