XMod light kit modified for Mini Z?

I'm a former X-Moder and I was wondering if it's possible to retrofit the X-Mod light kit for use on an MR-01 Racer? has anyone tried this? it's a cheap kit $5.99 as opposed to the $20 + one from Kyosho. thoughts?

I think it would work ok. Look at how many wires go into the connector. If it is just 2, then just cut it off and hook it up to the battery terminals or the motor terminal. Both cars run the same power.

I have an x-mod on the way. I sure hope their plug-and-play light kit is easier to do than all the trouble I had getting a light kit on my enzo (little space to work with).

it's not just a some wires with LEDs on the end, there is a little circuit board... and a white plug on the end that goes into the X-Mod... There is nothing on the Mini-Z that even remotely looks like this.. and the one Kyosho sells is like $40.99. WOW!! is there a way to retrofit this?

should be ok , I was gonna order a light kit to test this out myself. what I was planning was: chop the plugs off and solder couple if metal shims on in its place. screw them into where the 2 screws on the back of the z chassis hold the pcb wires in place. that said the XM light kit does operate differetnly (switch ing onm with the Tx) so there may be issues. But for the price, I'm willing to try. Anyone know If I can buy from the website?

EDiT: Don't worry about that stuff breaking off the modena, I lost the same stuf when one of my dogs tried to eat it!

How does it attach? Someone has to have tried to make one from scratch... $40.99 for some led lights is ridiculous!!

You may have plenty of Rat Shacks in downtown Coconutsburg, but over here in Ireland, 3000 miles away, we don't have any!! So it's not a question of laziness, but logistics. I get all my stuff online.

Wedginator has done tons of stuff with LEDs and i think he has a tutorial for scratch builing light kits, check out his website on geocities

I think it would be better to make your own light set but the parts do add up.I figure about $20.00 for the parts (LEDs,wire, resistors, solder) and the work would about be worth another $20.00.Fitting an X-mod light kit may be tricky on account of all the separate wires that come from the plug.

One other thing.Has anybody tryed to do brake lights on a Z (F1,OL,MR02) that works with the brake function on the board?

From motor wires it should be possible to get the brake and reverse info...

as stated before, the xmod light kit has the circuit board that functions with the car to operate the lighting effects. this might not translate at all to the miniz or if might? someone will have to try it out. i for one would love to know, then i'd buy th ekit and doo all my custom light kit using the circuit board.

i always prefer d.i.y. light kits. i guess i just like doing the work myself, but if i cna get the elcetronics (pcb) to do all the cool effects, than i'm all for it.

one thing i asked about a long time ago but no one answered...there is an awsome light kit for bits that should be simple enough to transfer the circuit work to the mini-z but it has functioning turn signals, brakes, headlights- the works. i think it's ultimate light mod or something.
here is the link but as of today, the site is down or something

i just got an xmod light kit and the connector has 4 wires. 2 of which are obviously power. the other 2 no doubt control the braking and driving features. how to adapt these will be these key questions.

When used with an Xmod the break lights work with the breaks. The lights are on dim untill you give throttle. If no throttle input is sensed for a few seconds the lights go out. It really works cool.

If you want an RC car that really looks good and you don't care if its not fast get an Xmod. They are fast on the top end but between their weight and gearing it takes them 50 feet to get up to top speed.
