how does the back panel attach to the body? screw posts or glue? if glue, what type of glue works best with this material?
There are 2 rails where you slide it in place. You can use double sided tape to secure it so it is not permanent. To make it permanent CA glue (Superglue) is the best because it will infiltrate the porous material.
A couple of months ago I placed an order for the body with Shapeways and they said it would be begin shortly. The next email said it was in production. After a couple of weeks, the next email said they couldn't do it and refunded my payment. Anybody know whats going on?
Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,
I am really sorry. While the 3D cad of the 917 hosted by Shapeways is still the one that was used to print my prototype (the Gulf blue 917), it does not fit their design rules anymore.
From time to time Shapeways changes the design rules, reducing tolerances for thin parts. I think the reason is that because of the huge success they have, they reject models that are too difficult to clean out.
I need to make the wipers and some other structures thicker in order to make the 917 printable again, currently Shapeways marked the model "rejected".

Bonjour, Alain
Thanks for the information and explanation, it makes sense.
By the way, I found out that Fujimi makes a 1/24 Porsche 917 in several versions and I ordered some of them. I got them through Far East Hobby Search for reasonable prices and quick shipping. I thought you might want to see them yourself. I'll start a thread on building the first soon.
