Chezedog's McLaren
Well, it arrived today, along with a few extras. 3 other guys at work have purchased MR-02s, and we're going to race them without performance hop-ups (for now), except I got bearings for everyone. I got some alloy wheels, but with bearings installed there's not snough thread left to get the nut on, and now the bearings are stuck in there!
So I've still got the orange wheels, w/bearings in the front only. Got a few alloy parts just 'cuz they look cool, too!

I have had no troubled with the bearings on my MCL Gulf. Just use small metric L driver and you can pull the bearings out easy if they are stuck.

What brand of bearings are you using? If it is Duratrax bearings, I've had those fit so tight that they crack a plastic wheel before.

They're generic ball bearings.
They fit fine in the stock orange wheels, the problem is with the alloys.
I did manage to get them out, but unless there are longer front axles available, I won't be able to use the alloy wheels anyway.

$5 ebay bearings maybe? Far as longer axels, my homebrew method involves taking the stock knuckles off and remove the spindle. then shave some off the back so the spindle sits deeper in. This only works if you need about 1/2 mm more thread on the end. anymore than that and it would crack easier.

Make sure the wheels are for your chassis style. I just had to scrap my alloy rims for my MCL because they stuck outside of the body. Anytime I would get near the wall in a race it would grab and flip me out. Needless to say I was not winning any of those races.

Well, I now see that since the old F1 racing days, things have changed and I've become a newbie again. Something as simple as some sporty wheels and bearings has turned to disaster. When we raced F1s, 7 bearings were required, and an F1 wheel was an F1 wheel. Now, I'm not even sure how many bearings my car needs, or if that number varies depending on the MR-02 chassis. And how do I know if the wheels I order will work or not? Ah, well, it'll be good to start over, I guess...

The MR02's use the same number of bearings. It's just the OL and Monster that use a different set. May just be the wheels you are using as the racers all seem to have a shorter spindle than the F1 cars. Now I wonder about the wheels you have. The only thing about the MR02 that is different from the older MR01's is the MR02 is wider in the frontend. They don't need the built in offset like the 01 cars. The offset 01 wheels put the wheel sticking out of the body on an 02 chassis.

OK, I Think I'm Ready!
Got some more parts and stuff today, so I think I'm ready to race those pesky co-workers of mine.
Pictured:
1. Some more alloy.
2. Wheels that fit!
3. The car, ready to run.
4. The extra body, to soften the blow when that first mirror breaks off!
Thanks for all the advice and answers!

Live in West Oakland during the week, but West Sacramento on the weekends.
Not a California native, though.
As an Air Force brat, I grew up all over the place!
