Spoon,

GP are perfect for radio transmitter application, all they have is long runtime and no punch. I have a set of GP1800mAh AA that I have used for I think around 3 years, they are still running great, hold their charge well and it can last up to 3 race day. 0.9 or 1.0 amp charge rate with 3mV delta peak is perfect for these cells. Good luck.

There are a few brands HERE any thoughts?
Folks on the dpreview.com forum I keep up with swear by those maha's. From what Ive read they have been somewhat of a pioneer with the higher MHA. I know they were one of the (if not THE) first of the first to make 2500mha.

There again Digital Cameras (especially with flash) are higher drain devices. I have not had trouble with my Energizer 2500's

I had an old set of Duracell 2050s that just dont hold their charge at all... I really think that it has more to do with how the cells are charged than what cell they are. These should be slow charged.

The 15 minute chargers are too fast... they are great if you are in a rush, but if you know you are going to go racing, charge the TX cells the night before in a slow charger... The fastest charger I would use would be the Duracell 30 minute charger, for car batteries as well.

I picked up a set of Duracell 2650s for the PNWC 2 weeks ago, charged them once, used them for the entire race weekend and practice... and ran my Mini-T outside for about an hour before breaking the chassis... I still get a 10.3v reading on the LCD.

I usually charge my AA's at 1000mA which shold take about 2 hours...I am going to try charging them at a lower rate.

I would be interested to see how those Duracell's hold up over the long run. My Energizer's were great at first.

I still like my 15 minute rayovacs... they dont get hot... I just have to cycle them a few time, charge/drain them in car for practice laps.. before they wake up fully.

i think the problem has been clarified. it seems to be the charge rate vs. the low drain application of the tx. most of these cells are marketed for high drain use/applications however we are using them in something that tends to just sit around unused for the most part.

are there specific cells for low drain devices/applications that would be best suited for making a cell pack for tx's like the helios?

Well, I got some resolution from Energizer. They are going to send me coupons (for new batteries I assume) but that doesn't really solve my problem...

I think Arch hit the nail on the head and has the pertinent question. Someone mentioned the GP's but they are like 3.75 each. cheapbatterypacks.com has some loose AA cells that they claim are good for TX's but they are out of stock right now. I already requested an email when they return to stock so I can post an update here...
