TRACK NEWS: Records Drop During Second Pre-Season meet

Open Practice:

track records once again improves in both the sedan and F1 categories as round two of pre-season practice got underway at Tom Thumbs. Only a handful took advantage of open practice during this second session with BudWilson topping the time sheets for the sedans setting a new track record of 7.25s beating out the record set by latency last week.

In the F1 field, only two showed for the afternoon with West.F1s mclaren the only one taking to the track. continued set up experiments for the upcoming season lead to improving the overall F1 track record to 7.85. BigVxxx opted not to run his Ferrari for the day due to mechanical gremlins

Open Practice Lap Time Results (sat- march 15)

Sedan GTs

BudWilson- 7.25s (acura nsx)
WestF1- 8.08s (warstainer mercedes)
BigVxxx- 8.30s (honda S2000)
RJones- 9.06s (warsteiner mercedes)
Firefly- 9.06s (mitsubishi wrc Lancer)

Formula One

WestF1- 7.85s (mclaren)
BigVxxx- no entry (ferrari)

RACE REPORT (sat, march 15):

Four heats made up the afternoon for the sedans class. the last two being qualfying followed by the only nonpoints race scheduled for the day. WestF1 was able to land top spot on the grid but was unable to clinch top podium in the end.

QUALIFYING RESULTS:

1) West.F1- warsteiner Mercedes
2) BudWilson (plain body)NSX
3) BigVxxx-HondaS2000
4) Firefly- wrcLancerEvo
5) RJones- warsteiner Mercedes

Race Report:

The only preseason A-main for the day started well on the first opening laps with WestF1 taking the whole shot and an early lead. A last minute diff change prior to the race however proved costly as directional problems came early allowing the rest of the field to pass by after only 3 laps. BudWilsons plain body NSX was looking strong as he took over the lead for several laps, the rest of the field struggling with various mishaps.
Firefly who started fourth with his WRC Lancer entry DNF’d in lap 5 while the Mercedes of RJones dropped out on lap 11. BigVxxx continued his drive and completed the race one lap down with his S2000.

(Firefly visiting from Pittsburgh. Tough afternoon though for his WRC entry)

The battle of the race came down to the front runners with BudWilson and West.F1. Despite starting in the front row, early struggles brought WestF1s mercedes to the rear of the pack and at one point being one lap down to Buds leading NSX. As the race continued however the tides turned as problems haunted the rest of the field including BudWilson. about mid way into the race Buds comfortable lead was cut tremendously as West.F1 was able to regain his lap and move up to second spot closing the gap to less than 1.0second from lead position. With less than 20 seconds remaining in the race, the gap to first was a mere 0.3seconds. Buds lead seemed threatened in the closing laps when suddenly West.F1 takes turn four too narrow causing his Mercedes to lift from the corner marker and land the car on it’s side. BudWilson drives on to secure his first pre-season win followed by BigVxxx who trailed one lap down finishing in second. the remaining line up in DNF situations.

(racers posing on the grid. Budwilsons plain body NSX in top form today sits in front)

PRE-SEASON A-MAIN SESSION II RESULTS

1st) JVallo
2nd) BigVxxx (-1)
3rd) West.F1 (DNF)
4th) Rjones (DNF)
5th) Firefly (DNF)

Congrats to BudWilson for winning the second preseason main and topping the track record.

Talking OMG!!!

Fire the crew chiefs, too many DNF's!!!! Just hink, if you just sat on the line, and did not move, you could have gotten second! Just kidding bud, all in good fun!

Sorry I missed the forary this weekend, with the weather as nice as it was, I had to take the Ducati out and ride. That whole rc vs motorcyle bit....

Unfortunately, Team LP Racing will be unavailable for the next race, as my fembot (a.k.a. my wife) is having a baby next month, so I have a birthing class thing... hrmmm.....

Nice to see the NSX having a better lap time than the F1..

It even looks nice in plain white.. curious to what kinds of parts he is using

ha. latency might be rubbing off on you digisane. over here we have a semi off track thing going on.. 'mercedes vs nsx: which is better?' On one hand the NSXs have gotten the lap records, but yet Mercedes have TQ'd. The saga continues..

As for lap times, remember these are open practice runs so wouldn't compare the F1 to the sedans too much just yet. there's still alot of experimenting going on in prep for the official season. Note my F1 time is faster than my sedan time despite being off the pace to Buds NSX.

what's going to be really cool with our league is that we're slated to change the track layout every time we race for points. Just like a real race series so the recorded best lap times will change with each layout. Nothing like adding some drama by changing the layout.

jason my man aka BigVxxx

bout time you started posting. i'll edit my report to show 8.30

as for the race, good thing it's preseason. otherwise i'd have to whip out the Prozac. but don't worry, i will learn from my mistakes. i'd rather finish second from now on than not finish at all.

hope you got your Ferrari F1 ready cause i've got mine tuned to woop this weekend.

later holmes.

Yup I noticed that. I'm just saying that the F1 times are hard to beat and it's nice to see that the tintop (in this case, the NSX) has beat your F1's times. F1s do really well stock in chicanes and fast corners while the tintops would struggle to keep up.

Nice, to make things even more exciting, try a 100 lapper and pitstops to change batteries.

Looking forward to reading more of your race reports! Keeps me busy when there's no news on F1 sites.

there had been talks of a single enduro race but nothing serious. would be cool though.

we do 5 minute heats which translates to just under 34 laps. a 100 lapper would mean a 15minute race with a battery change mid stride.

come to think of it, since a full set of batteries can last a good 30 minutes, a super enduro of 400 laps is even a possibility!

i'm sure the topic will be brought up again a few times as the season goes on. i'll keep you posted

WestF1 said I needed a new handle so here it is wtgfdtbs. My former username was budwilson. That was old alias in college but I am officially retiring it. The new user name is an ancronym for "When The Green Flag Drops The Bull**** Stops". I saw that on a Tshirt when I was down at the Nascar race in Atlanta last fall. Anyway things are running great at Tom Thumb in Columbus. The lap counter is working great and we are starting our first points race on Saturday. Hopefully we will have a good crowd. Latency is out but will be back in action next week. I have the NSX running better. I captured the A main in the pre-points race last Saturday. WestF1 was coming on strong in his CLK but got hung up in the final minute. I might have heard someone in the crowd say that he choked (Mike) but I have no comment on that.

As far as the setup that I am running in the NSX:

Eagle turbo
X-speed
GPM wheels wide w/standard offset
wide 20's in the rear
semi wide 50's up front
megatech steering arm -1 toe
kyosho spring dampener in rear med (yellow) spring
kyosho medium h-plate
kyosho soft (red) springs up front
Powerline diff

I am looking forward to our points race tomorrow.

Nice report!

Great to read on other race weekends.

On Sunday there will be a raceday at LMRC in Sweden, I'll see if I remember to take some pics and vids and then I'll write an report and add here.

The raceday starts off with practice session to get all the setups working, finding if new tires are the best or if the old ones will work. After that there will be qualifying where we race single car to try to get to that important pole that will give you a trouble free first corner.

And then the 250 lap race starts. Laptimes is about 8 -8,5 sec for the best ones, 33-36 minutes of pure racing. Uptil now only one has tried to race the full distance without changing batteries but failed and lost 3 places. Everyone now heads for the pits in midrace to change batteries.

Hopefully we'll get a full grid of 8 cars.

/Marcus

minten- good to see you are having another race series as well. good for this hobby in general.

not sure if you should add your series info under this Tom Thumbs thread though . probably be better to start a separate sweden race series thread so as not to congest. besides, this one is pre-season info.

i'm to be working with Mr Z to get a race series section up and going where we can put in data into there. in the mean time, our points series is slated to begin and i'll most likely start a new thread to avoid congesting this one.

looking forward to reading about progress in your championship in comparison to ours at TTs

Talking Bummed!

>--smack talk on--< You guys get your points lead now, I will be back in action and looking to catch up asap next week! That is when I bring back those, what do they call those things that, you know, pay the bills? Oh, yeah, skills. You know my philosophy, if you aren't smack talking you aren't racing!
>--smack talk off--<

BTW, John, if Abe gets the whole shot, and trust me, he will let you know that he did, all you need to do is play some mental games with him. Just ask him if his nose itches, or if that sweat that is about to drip in his eye is bothering him. Worked every time for me! All in good fun Abe, see you guys next weekend!
