Futaba 7PX with a Mini Z

Hello, my name is Allen and this is my first post. I build and race Gas RC boats. I started doing some research and discovered the Kyosho mini-z Cars. So today I ordered a new RPC track and a few cars. I’m hoping you Gentleman could help me with the parts needed and guidance to hook up my new Futaba 7PX to one of the mini z’s. My goal is to get in some radio time indoors and stay on the radio. Many rainy days ahead. Thank you for help, Allen

You're going to want to get an MR03 EVO, and this receiver http://rc.kyosho.com/en/82042.html

The EVO just released, and has not come into the supply chains as if yet. Cost should be around $190 for the EVO and $65 for the RX. I would get the MM2 version with the 5600kv motor, then your body of choice with wheels and tires. Kyosho 20d wide radials for rear and 30d slicks for the front should get you balanced with traction.

If you get the MR-03 EVO, is there a receiver that allows you to run it with the kt-531 radio (I know, some will say why would you want to?). That way you could go brushless.

Is there an easier way to go brushless with an MR-03?

This receiver will work with the kt-531p and kt-432pt radios. http://rc.kyosho.com/en/82041.html

I can understand why you would want that compatibility. If you already have a car which uses the radio, no reason to have two radios. At that point, the question would be to consider upgrading to the kt-432pt... the evo being compatible with the kt-432pt radio actually starts to make sense. You can have some inexpensive brushed cars, and then the brushless cars all on the same radio, and the response is considerably better than the old ASF module based radios and considerably cheaper than the ASF/MHS radios and you have access to inexpensive RWD electronics to upgrade older used cars that you can find inexpensively...

The only other option with the VE electronics would be to get an ASF transmitter. The older transmitters work, but are notably slower than the current offerings which I find quite expensive. The other option would be to use standalone receivers, ESC and servo controller with a PN chassis which has the real estate to fit everything on its deck unlike the MR03. I have been developing my own chassis for use with both kyosho and aftermarket electronics like the PN chassis, but only support inexpensive higher capacity lipo cells. It is compatible with many mr03 upgrades, as it is based off the mini-z design. It's been on the afterburner for a little while, but I just ordered a new revision to test from shapeways.

Thanks for the info. At $200+, The Kt-432 is not an option for me.
But at least that receiver you linked and an evo would get me into Brushless.

Welcome to the forums... what cars did you order? The kits usually come rtr with the radio... hopefully you got the newer mr03 RWD compared to the mr03 sports version... they have their own protocol, and are not compatible with futaba...

As emu mentioned you might want to wait for the release of the mr03 evo... you will have to purchase a receiver module though...
