Last march 2016, I was able to go back to Taipei… was again pretty fortunate to visit a track in Taipei… during my last trip, I was able to visit two tracks (click here for the link to the article)…
prior to my trip I got to contact ilove599xxx (who happens to be from these forums and lives in taipei) and he mentioned that I should bring a car so we can try out the track…
track information just escapes me at the moment… I can’t remember how I got the info… but I remember that I took a business card before leaving their shop / track…
1.3
It seemed like an interesting shop, but what was more interesting, was where the tracks were located…
There were stairs leading down… and I got to see this…
Buggy track (carpet) …
And going down one more flight of stairs… we found the track… which was also carpet…
I took ilove599xxx's advice and I brought an old school slightly modified mr02 with a yellow 360 ferrari which i acquired from mr rcp tracks himself… with the stock kt18 controller… and a stock mr03 red vitz…
As I haven’t been on a track in such a long time so I didn’t have any expectations as I didn’t know what to expect… well I did have one expectation…. I expected to have fun…
I tried the stock mr03 first… it was a pleasant joy seeing the red vitz traveling around the track… I really couldn’t push it as it did tend to traction roll around the sharp corners… for the long sweeping turns, it was a bit loose and I had to either counter steer to correct or let off the throttle for a smoother transition…
Then I tried the slightly modified mr02… it was totally useless… hahaha… there was no grip, no steering just frustration, i was struggling just trying to make a lap without spinning 180* in the other direction… hahaha… so after quite a while… I figured that I had to change the tires… the rears at least… so I asked if I could buy some tires and put them on the 360… I also took out the front tires of the vitz (which I believed had more grip) and swapped them with the fronts of the 360 and put them on the front of the 360.
Boom! It was all hooked up and pretty solid! it was like I was driving a totally different car! I asked what type of tires they use over there… and ilove599xxx mentioned that the track owner said silicone…. I switched between using the vitz and the 360 a couple of times… and enjoyed driving them both on the track… well maybe enjoying the 360 just slightly… after a while though the tires on the mr03 vitz were coated with oil… I guess due to the amount that was laid down from the other cars, it was bound to happen… was thinking of buying rear tires for the vitz too… but I felt that it was more challenging trying to drive the vitz on the edge… hahaha… ok you guys can call me mr. cheapskate now…
Well it was getting late and after close to an hour of driving ilove599xxx and i had to get going… haven't had this much fun in a long time… wondering what it would’ve been like to try the buggy track… well maybe next time…
