I stripped the planetary gears of my gear differential, and there is no replacement anywhere, so I had to glue it up and use it as a solid non-differential axle. Is it ok to have a rear locked differential, or it would be better to use it on the front? What would be the pros and cons? I run on an RCP, mainly short and technical track. Thanks.
you can do okay-well on an RCP track with a locker, but it's not ideal as RCP isn't a really slick surface where tire scrub doesn't matter too much.
there's a ball-diff mod in this forum somewhere.
locker can go in the front or rear... try both on the RCP and see which one you like better for the feeling. remember, if you're racing, you'd probably like understeer more than oversteer.
A completely locked diff is no good. The best is a heavy front diff for your needs, i.e. technical track. It should allow you to pull out of the corners.
Best suggestion is to use heavy grease in the diff casing. (and get a new diff since you blew you old one).
As the other guys have stated, you could build your own ball diff or even use it with the Yeah racing front-one way as you reuse the case to build the 1-way. Note the fron 1-way is for med to high speed tracks, which doesn't fit your situation.
