Testament to the Sport model...

Well it's been almost a year of incredible wear and tear on the rental MR03 Sports at Railyard Hobbies. All cars still function fully! We have replaced some parts (mostly stock knuckles) but all of the boards still function and that was with tons of abuse running stock diffs! I just got done straightening out the entire herd tonight, little issues and some radio resets (I'm an expert at the hokey pokey now). When they started the rentals down there I had it figured for maybe 3 fet swaps for the first month, and it never happened! I was certain after watching a few kids full throttle into the wall for a few agonizing seconds that there was going to be smoke signals of help all year long but somehow they all held together.

So, after much worry for nothing... the rentals are still going strong, the track made a bit more cash than they would have without us and we're still racing there once or twice a month. Not a bad deal!

this is good to hear, one of the local guys bought one and has had nothing but trouble with the board. Fets have been replace several time but it keeps blowing them. Maybe it's the way he drove it or some other problem was caused by the first melt down. It could also be how he is driving it and trying to drive through or push off rails under power. I talked with him about it and he did admit he was trying to do that. that the only way the fets on the AM boards would pop too.

Agreed very good to hear. I've been wanting to pick a couple up as loaners for visitors, but have been put off by some of the stories I've read on various forums.

Reminder:
All of the rentals still run stock motors with the big yellow thing soldered to them. If you're gonna use them as loaners, I'd suggest you leave them as such.

One of the first newbies we had bought a Sport and called me within a week for a fet replacement. I think he made a bad contact with the motor wires on the board because I doubt a 70turn would fry the car (diff was really tight as well).

our guy was running stock motor with the big yellow cap (or whatever it's called) still installed. after he ran for awhile he popped the fets again. we replaced them one more time and when he hit reverse it blew them both again. didn't try again after that he bought the PN board as he already had a spektrum radio.

sounds like for the most part they are pretty good, with some isolated instances where they have problems.

I'm glad to hear your update and that the ones you guys are renting out have been holding up well.

All run 6 tooth pinions as well with stock diffs, I think to make them truly "bulletproof", they should have alloy knuckles and ball diffs. The fact that they have the stock diffs and haven't blown up yet is the one thing that I find truly unbelievable. When these cars are in a wall and the kids are still throttling full, the tires don't budge, spin or shimmy... it's been just raw full power to locked up drivetrains and not a single blown fet. If I did that with one of my cars, it would probably pop within seconds.

As always Larry, but we are officially out of stock knuckles. I actually salvaged one with some superglue and vice grips (squeezed it as it cured).

No broken motor mounts or stock wheels this time, but 4 or 5 six tooth pinions stripped out and 2 busted knuckles.

parts kit mz403. this has the common suspension parts that break. I've given nearly all of mine away already. I'm sure if you put out the call for them people would send them. most replace them right out out of the box. really wish draconious kept his mini-z garage open for all the spare and loose stock parts. really miss a shop that catered to that type of stuff.

the upgrade radio can't get here fast enough, the line continues to sell well at hobby works. there is confirmation an affordable flysky radio is compatible as well.

Keely confirmed that the FlySky works with the FHS, I just don't have the $55 to confirm it yet.

Nice to hear how the mr03s is holding up. Would really love to read an in depth review on the flysky radio and how it handles the mr03... Anybody?

Can you post the FlySky model that is confirmed to work with the sports? I'd like to look into it. Thanks.
