Post Monster Tires Guide for the Overland

To preface:
Having experimented with monster tires and lifts bars...I am convinced of the added level of fun they can add! I was able to run over our rock garden that would have floundered my stock overland if not running full steam over it. I have no plans to make a permanent monster overland but I would like to make a nice set of monster wheels etc for my fet stacked overland.

While I was impressed with the increased range of courses the monster tires allowed me to conquer...I am not sold on the actual monster wheels/tires I currently have. I would like to create a guide, here, containing all the various monster wheels/tires that members have run with. I know this information is already spread out within the forum (warn, nml, brin etc), my intention is to consolidate this into an accessible guide for others wanting to experiment/mod with monster tires into one easy and helpful thread...I'll start since I brought it up

Please provide some simple but helpful information like;
1. Where you found/can find the wheels/tires
2. Brief installation description
3. Link to pictures (uses less bandwidth)

1. where:
i got my monster wheels from 2g2 so he will have to post where he got them, i think some others have the same ones...
2. how to:
used a dremel to grind out some of the inner spokes and grind down the inner well slightly, slip over the stock overland wheel w/ tire. they fit snuggly as long as you don't get happy with the dremel
3. pictures:
side shot
see how they fit on the stock wheels
monster overland and stock overland

1. Lego set
2. Slide them on the stock wheels. Takes a little stretching.
3. Here is my thread: My Monster OL!

They are awesome and still look relatively real. The best of both worlds.

OK, I am not sure where i got the tires from, but to give you an idea what to look for, I have pics showing the size of it OFF the OL wheels.

Hope that helps!

I know where you can find those kits at around 12 bucks if you need to know. Those are awefully large and would probably the steering quite a bit.

I can think of at least 4 more people that have Monster OL's that have yet to post.

You should talk to warnoffroad, he has several Monster OL's.

i'm actually looking for something more along the lines of these rather than these . while i admit to enjoying the lifted and larger tires....i prefer a more realistic approach. i started this thread though for the benifit of all the new overlanders that see all the cool modded overlands and ask, "what wheels/tires are those" and "where can i get those".

I agree, I like the OL for its shear realistic appearance. That was one of the main reasons I liked it so much. I like my lego tires but i must say I think warnoffroad has the best looking Overland right here.

Looks great and all he had to do was a suspension lift. I would love a setup like that but he can't find anymore of those tires. He said they were off a toy suburban and they are mounted on Mini-Z wheels in the pic.

yep, saw that. i check out mini z bar frequently. that is exactly what i'm looking for! but i can't read japanese so i don't know if he listed his source...i've seen similar tires in some japanese model trucks at pearl arts and crafts...but they cost almost $40. however cool...i'm not spending that much for tires...

I have the Willy's Jeep and the wheels/tires suck... I want the ones that Arch wants

I do have the Tamiya Wild Mini 4WD wheels and tires (the yellow ones) but you need two kits to make the whels and tires fit an Overland because you only use the two geared wheels that come in the kit.. unless you want to spend an entire day dremelling... but they snap right over standard mini'Z racer wheels or Overland wheels w/o the tires

I have the silver wheels like Arch's new ones I got them from a $6 Tonka monster truck I found at Target
