DasMikro board for mr03 sport

So I'm planning to fet mod my mr03 sport, but I've also been looking at upgrading to a DasMikro board.

specifically this one
https://www.excelrc.com/dasmikro-kyo...d-icsgyro.html

other than a ASF transmitter, is there anything else I would need? also would it improve the rest of the car, not just what motors the car can handle. It is my ununderstanding that the steering is very slow with th sport models and the KT19 transmitter. would this board improve that?

In short yes, it will improve the performance resolution of the car. No, other than a transmitter, you will not need anything else for a board swap. I’ve done at least 5 sports series board swaps already. The better job you do with the soldering, the less jittering you should hear with the steering. Nearly all those I’ve done have noisy steering compared to ko propo board but drive fine.

I have not used any of the brushed boards, by have used the brushless dasmikro boards and have no issues with them.

Clean servo joints are always important, and while you are swapping the components, upgrade the power wires to a slight larger gauge.

These brushed dasmikro ASF boards use a comparable fet to the RWD fet, but have 2 pairs of then which makes it the most robust brushed board currently on market.

Can't add much that hasn't already been said.

I find the DasMikro board very comparable to the original MR03 ASF board, in terms of quality, granularity and responsiveness.

Take a picture of the original installation before you remove/replace the board, it can help remember which order the steering potentiometer wires go.

This couldnt be more true... I have had to google pictures to get the correct order after already removing the wires

nice to read the das mikro reviews here...
i've got 3 das mikro boards that i intend to replace on some AM cars... in the pipeline... so with so many other stuff that i haven't been able to do lol...

so i've got a couple of questions...

1 from kyosho mr03 asf (busted fet / defective board) to das mikro...
direct swap right?... following all original wiring for the potentiometer and servo motor orientation? i remember reading somewhere that you would have to reverse the orientation of the servo motor or this isn't needed?

2 from kyosho mr02 AM to das mikro...
the kyosho mr02 AM board has only two wires to the potentiometer compared to three connected to mr03 asf board... do we just add another wire?

additionally, the servo motors between the mr02 AM and mr03 ASF board are different... would there be any problem installing the das mikro in a mr02?

also which wiring orientation do we follow?

3 from kyosho AM F1 to das mikro...
same questions/concerns as #2

many thanks in advance for any answers...

You would need 3 wires to the pot, one to each leg. Also 3 gear servo uses reverse wiring on servo motor compared to 4. I usually don't remember which way things go, so I wire it up and test it. If it centers, then but is reversed pin 1 and 3 from the pot as well as motor wires should be reversed (or simply reverse the steering channel) if the motor drives away from center, then motor wires should be reversed.

Are you using the 1 ohm capacitors on the motor with the DaMikro ? BTW if anyone can help where can those be purchased from nowadays?

out of the two brushed DasMikro boards I've installed, one of them not only has a bad case of the steering jitters on the bench but also for sure stutters the servo under load which effects the cars handling on the track, the other one just jitters BUT both of them are noticeably slower compared to ASF (same motor and gearing) , been pretty careful about soldering each joint but it sounding like I maybe overlooking something based on posts above which much better feedback than mine.

EMU, I've never heard of these. Must have come out when I was AWAL. How do they compare to the MR-03 ASF board?

I have yet to use the ASF Brushed version, but have two brushless ones and am quite pleased with them. ICS adjustments work as well. The boards look near identical to the Kyosho.

The brushed models have FET packages that resemble the upgraded 8858 fet in the data sheet. A little less efficient, and a hair less current and resistance capacity, but loads better than the old 3010 fet that was used in the standard ASF brushed boards. Basically, it is a modified ready board in a sense.

thanks for the info... lemmie see if i understood that correctly...

for the servo motor, take note if the intended chassis for the swap has a 3 servo gear set up vs. a 4 servo gear set up...

based on the mr03 chassis diagram, it has 4 servo gears -> solder servo motor wires to the board as indicated. positive (+) to positive (+) and negative (-) to negative (-)

for the mr02 chassis, it has 3 servo gears -> solder servo motor wires opposite of what is indicated. positive (+) to negative (-) and negative (-) to positive (+)

for the f1 chassis, it also has 3 servo gears -> solder servo motor wires opposite of what is indicated. positive (+) to negative (-) and negative (-) to positive (+)

another question... for the pot... is the soldering orientation on the board also dependent on whether the intended chassis is a 3 or 4 servo gear set up as well?

It states which wire go to which part of the pot. The most important part is the center pin (resistance) wire being centered. I have wired the other two wires in reverse and servo motor in reverse by accident and only needed to reverse the steering channel on the radio.
