How to buy a Mini-Z/needed components?
I've been having difficulty figuring out the best places to buy a Mini-Z from, and also what I need to buy in order to be ready to drive it once I receive it. This isn't a really complex problem, and I bet the answer is relatively easy and straight forward. The more I've been browsing, the more I'm learning. However I'll still feel more comfortable getting approval of some experienced people.
So I started on the Kyosho America website, as I'm in America. I decided the chassis I want is the "MINI-Z MR-03VE PRO MM2 Chassis". I found it here. But no one has recommended buying from Kyosho. So then I found the same thing here on TinyRC, and for cheaper too. This a good purchase choice?
The description says I need a remote control aka "transmitter" and a body.
I cant seem to find a MHS transmitter. I figure I'm just doing something wrong. All I could find is this one. But that's 300 freakin dollars. Is MHS really expensive? Meaning I cant find one cheaper?
And look at this link. That's the kind of combo I'd like to buy, except two problems. 1.) Its not QUITE exactly the same chassis, am I right? and 2.) Its out of stock. Is it even relevant? Or is it just selling too fast?
I'd obviously rather have a bundle like that, instead of having to buy a transmitter separately. But I also want to make sure I have the latest tech on my chassis.
I'm not too concerned about help finding a body. I don't expect it to be very hard. As I understand it, most bodies will fit an MR-03?
[[EDIT]: I've been browsing for hours and it seems that if I want to buy the "MINI-Z MR-03VE PRO MM2 Chassis Set", my cheapest-yet-quality choice for a Transmitter is the KT-18? on tinyRC shop here

Pnr2.5w
to add to your list...
look for "PN Racing MZ505 VE PRo Board Pre-Install PNR2.5W Semi Chassis Set" There's an option that comes with a PN board compatible with Spektrum Tx (you can get a DX3C for $99)
This wouldn't be a goog option if people at your club runs a Stock category.

Thanks for your reply. Could you explain why it is important for me to have? Is it necessary for operation? Or is it a recommended upgrade for racing?

Take a moment to seriously consider how far you'd like to go with your new mini Z interest:
1. Do you want something to fill around with and tinker into a chill looking shelf/ dust collector?
2. Do you want to really get into some club racing and progress into faster levels of competition?
The reason I qualify these options is it really makes your purchase choices easier.
If you're interested in getting into racing I would consider an upgraded radio and a chassis set. The biggest limiting factor to developing into a competent club racer is the KT style of radios included included in a readyset. The lack of adjustment can really affect progression.
Refsuil22 suggested a premium racing upgrade with the ability to get an entry level racing TX.
Think about how serious you'll want you get before buying.

Thanks for the reply. The whole time I've been looking into Mini-Zs, I've been in the mind set that if I can find a group of racers, I'd love to compete with them. Therefore, I didn't mind paying some extra money so that I'm able to do so should I find one. I am actively searching for people.

With that in mind then you should consider a chassis set and a premium radio like the EX6... you may spend a bit more money initially but your resale value is higher of you fall out off interest. No-one really wants to buy an kt18 or kt19 for what they're worth.
The PN board and 2.5 chassis is also a great option but a bit more expensive due to having to build the rest of it from option parts. I'd focus on your mm2 chassis as its am excellent starting point with plenty of great option parts already included.

you can buy from KUSA however they try not to undercut retailer that carry their product so prices are typically higher. your best served buying from a reliable retailer that has a return policy. the shop here has been in business for 16-7 years. RCKenon is another reputable domestic retailer. There are smaller shops mostly associated with clubs like salt lake mini-z. there are others but you have to call or email.
The MM2 kits are relatively new. they are vast improvement over the previous model rear end as it includes a disc damper. if your going to run stock, 94-102mm, get an MM2 kit.

these are sold in various forms; 1. chassis set alone. you need a transmitter and autoscale of choice. 2. ARR, a chassis set with autoscale but no transmitter. 3. RTR, comes with transmitter, chassis set and autoscale. all you need to run right out of the box.

'Pro' series will operate on ASF mode by default however it can operate on MHS, a faster response system. you can use any ASF transmitter however to take fully advantage of the HMS system you will need a transmitted like the EX-6. see the sticky posts in the transmitter section. you can find the ex-6 for much less than $300.

can't open the link at work but if the chassis itself is reconfigurable meaning you can change the rear end configuration to fit various wheelbases. this would explain why some look different. They should all come with the parts to change the configuration, except 90mm hm which is seldom used. then you have newer sets like the MM2 which comes with newer parts.

all will fit the mr-03. you simply need to change the front track width and or rear configuration to suit the autoscale of choice. nearly all kits come with the parts needed to make these changes however older ones will not have the MM2 and some may not include RM HM which is seldom used.

Or buy Canadian and get a great discount based on your you USD. This also supports us as a manufacturer to allow us to bring more unique products to racers.
As mentioned, check out our book as it has a whole section on what upgrades to buy and in what order.
To date, most of our books have been bought by US based racers. There have also been some great reviews on the book.
Just saying....
