I own a EX-10 Helios. What kind of batteries do most Helios users run in their radios? Are AA-NiMh cells like the new Orion AA's OK to use?
In the Helios' manual it says something about NiMh cells giving off gases that can affect the radio; And NiMH AA's are only rated @1.2V, so I have stayed with 1.5V alkalines so that the radio runs at ~12.0V with new batts. But since most AA NiMh cells charge up to 1.4+ Volts, and some reaching above 1.5V at full charge, I was wondering if AA NiMh batteries are safe to use with Tx's like my Helios?
Thanks for your help
I just use alkaline. I use the Eveready titanium alkaline. They last longer. You can get packs of them at Sams club. The Rechargeables to me seem heavier overall. Just my 2 cents.

NiMH's will work fine but I am a big fan of the Energizer Lithium (non-rechargable) batteries. They are really light and they last a long long time. I've tried several types of NiMH and after a short time they stop holding a charge. They will last a day of racing and then I have to charge them again. I have been using the Lithiums for a few weeks now.
Thanks for the replies guys. I will stick with non-rechargeable-type batteries then. I've always used regular Duracell alkaline and have had good results, they seem to last quite long. But I will also try the Energizer lithium non-rechargeable soon Spoon.
I have been using 3 cells rechargable li polymer battery for a long while now, and definitely sworn by it. For using it on daily basis(15min-1/2hr)and 2 hours on weekend, I probably only need to recharge it on monthly basis. (the battery is not even low, somewhere less than 11v).
For Nimh, I strongly recommend using the Eneloop batteries by Sanyo or the similar type of cells. New orion cells are probably best for heavy use, but eneloop has the property for ultra slow draining. And given if the user discharge and charge at a low rate, the cells could last longer than normal Nimh cells.
Energizer li are great and light, but I remember it starts at a much higher V, something like 1.7v. Is everyone using energizer li battery finds it ok to use with Helios in a long run?
