I would love to drive my mini-z with a live stream from a mounted micro camera. has anyone tried this? I suspect the power output from mini-z board will not be enough to cater for cam+receiver.
Coincidentally, we just tried this over the weekend. First using a keychain micro camera taped to the roof (powered by it's own lipo), and second taking a Blade Nano QX FPV quadcopter and strapping the entire quad onto the roof. Tried using FPV goggles as well as a separate LCD screen. The power requirements for these cameras are really low, the AAA's of a Mini-Z can easily drive them.
It's really fun, but pretty hard. What looks fast through the camera is barely a crawl at real speed. It's really hard to pick up the corners as the viewpoint is so low, it was easier to see the red RCP borders than the light gray ones. I think having the camera mounted up higher would help. A couple of us tried it, it helped that we had already memorized the track layout. With someone driving at normal speed the FPV view was almost a blur. Might be fun to try out FPV only racing sometime.
This is video from a pen camera. It's not FPV but gives you perspective of driving wide open. There is just no way you could do it.

That looked like FPV to me, if the car is the first person that is...
I'd like to know the specs on the cameras. Looks like 30fps is the norm for speed, but resolutions are in HD with some of these newer lip-powered models. The pen-cam probably only supported 640x480, however for what it is, it didn't look horrible, in my opinion. Could have used a little more straights for at least a moment of stable view, but nonetheless not horrible. You can really get a miniature perspective of the track from the car's viewpoint, and hearing the motoring is kind of neat...

It was strapped to the back of the car and was upright. It's a good perspective of FPV. It does in fact shoot 30fps and is 640x480. I think I paid $15 on eBay.
