HELP - Removing body clips?

Hello,

I need help removing the stock body clips from my black G55 body.. I removed the white clips from my Pajero (over a year ago) and it was fairly easy, but I can't get the black ones off my G55 and I sure as h*ll don't wanna break/crack the body.

Does anyone know an easy way to get the body clips off, is there a substance that would 'eat away' the glue without messing up the plastic?

I'm planning on doing a simple mod that would allow me to adjust the body height by moving the body clips up/down.

Body clip removel

I have found that acetone used in moderation will soften the glue making it easier to remove them.If used in moderation it will noy hurt your body as it evaporates really fast.Be careful. Also if you use an exacto knife and chip away at the glue you can wear it down enough that the clips will come off.If you cip away at it the use a pair of plyers and gently start pulling on it it will pop off.Hope this helps any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks,Rcrawler

I used a Dremel with a large diameter cutting wheel and carefully between the clip and the body. Of course don't do this if you plan on reusing the tabs on the body or the clip.

The best way to take body mounts off is to use a candle and heat up a sharp hobby knife and run it across the bead of glue untill the body mount seperates from the body

I just take my pocket knife, and use the bottle opener. Put it in and twist it. Then pry it up with the opener.

Works on most bodies I have...

....And if all that fails, just grind them out and replace them with Dogbreath One-Piece mounts, easy to build and install, and they can be mounted at any height....I don't use stock mounts in any of my bodies anymore.

Turtle.....and Phredd........

Don't think I ever posted any pics of the newer one-piece mounts, anyway here is a real simple, cheap, strong, and secure way to mount almost any body.

I am using the new Baja Bug for an example because the body and mounts fit sooooo snug.

Mounted tight, no body movement, not even after heavy impact (stock mounts don't hold this tight!)

To make one simply measure the length of the body between the tires ard cut a sheet of styrene plastic that length X 2 inches, now heat the styrene (Carefully with a tourch or heat strip) and bend to 90 degrees to form a L shape, next lay one side of the L against your battery tray and mark off where the battery clip will fit, now (Again carefully!) with an Xacto knife or dremel start removing the inner portion where the clip will fit, test fit often until the piece fits into the slots in the battery tray and fit snug around the battery clip. Next trim the ends so that they just engage the slot in the battery tray. Place one mount on each side of your chassis and slide the body down over them to the desired height and center, and while applying slight pressure apply a thin line of CA glue (Please don't glue your fingers to your body or the body!) to the bottom edge and allow to set, then carefully remove the body and gue the inner surfaces as well. Paint to taste and you are finished with a set of mounts that are very secure....it's almost impossible to knock the shell off this baby!

To remove the body we just push a thumbnail or small screwdriver into the battery clip slot and pry off.

All mounted up and ready to ROCK!!!

Now you know the rest of the story...

Thumbs up nice job DBR

That is one sweet looking baja you have there DBR. Would there be a way to use body clips like that on a MR-01?completely ridding myself of the nose mount?

Lightbulb

the OL seems to be alot of fun. a few of the guys at our LHS have them and they have a blast with them. I plan on getting one some day, I also want a monster. Maybe sometime in the near future I might have a question worthy of your OL skills and knowledge till then keep up the great work

the mr-01 has similar chasis battery compartment so i think it would be just a matter of taking the time to make the necess. fixes to get overland body clips to work. the mr-02 is a different story which i will be able to expand on later tonight i tend to wander into modding racers from time to time as well
