Kyosho Miniz Cup Rally A Main - Drifting corners?

I see that Kyosho just posted a new video of the Miniz Cup Rally A Main. After watching I could not help but wonder why these guys were bothering to drift around the corners?

Is Rally a bad translation for drifting or something lol? Surely they would carry much more speed if the followed the racing line like a car on rails with good traction.

Just struck me as odd unless the race was specifically meant to be drifting only in corners.
