OK everyone.....this incompetent fool has FINALLY wound his first armature sucessfully. First go with the 30 ga for 35 turns. Tested it and it ran fine. I was having trouble with neatness using the 26 gauge wire. Now I can start messing around and will re-attempt the 26 gauge/30 turn again, now I have my confidence back. Ken, your advice about tapering has a lot of logic to it. I applied this technique with my 30 ga/35 turn, and I could see what you were on about.
Glad to help. Your 26ga. 30t will be challenging.
Here's another (probably obvious) tip: As you wind the first layer on each side, slide the winds towards the arm shaft to help keep them tight and neat, because a good start contributes to a good finish.
When I tested my 30 gauge, 35 turn, my GPM V2 turbo heated up quite a bit (to the point where the adhesive it is stuck onto the chassis with became soft )....something my stock x speed never caused. Is the GPM turbo pretty limited as to the current it can supply? If so, I 'spose the FET replacement (IRF7389) and stacking the FETs might allow a higher current draw than the V2, hence the ability to run hotter motors. Any comments?

I would get a turbo-3 or bigger turbo for the custom wound motors, the fets in the v2 are pretty small and imo would have much less amperage ratings

If the motor is heating with a smaller number of winds, you'll need to get stronger magnets... Try some of Drac's Neodymiums possibly...

that wouldnt work, the lower the turns the higher rpm. Therefor less torque, with the neo's you would definately need neo's and a set of realy fresh batteries. Spoken from my experience with my NML new drag motor, man that thing fly's, lol...
