First purchases, tires, bearings, carbon H-plate. From there it's your choice on how you want the car to handle and how much bling you want to put on it.

I am pretty sure they have some jgtc rtr's. Check the shop and look under readysets. If you order one today and use the coupon code you can get it for 10% off.

Edit: Just took a quick look, I don't see any JGTC rtr's in stock.

does it really matter is it is mr02 or mr01? and are all the cars the same besides the body?

To my knowledge mR-01's were the originals, and MR-02's were second. The MR-02's are superior to the 01's according to what I have been reading, for a beginner, you probably wouldn't really be ab;e to tell the difference, but if you want to upgrade the car in the future, I would suggest the MR-02, because there are more parts for it.

All RTR's are the smae, the only difference being between the 02 and 01, as explained above. Hope this helps.

You sure like the word "most", and the suffix "ly".

Straightline Speed and straightline speed only, you want an mr-02. With the MR-02 board, there's no voltage limit, so you can run lithiums. besides that, stacked Fet's and some crazy motor would really have it going fast. You might want to ask someone else, as I don't really care about top end, in my opinion Acceleration and handling are more important.

Easy there loco, there is a voltage limit on an MR-02 you just cant go crazy first thing out the gate. If you go and start pumping lithium power your gonna ruin a great little car. To start out, like Spoon said, those are basic and necessary items for a new Mini. Next, find a local shop that races and race a little in stock form, get to know the other racers and pick their brains as to what is fast for them, but do your research, you could end up with a burn mark on your carpet where your Mini-Z once was. I do agree with JamesJozef, acceleration and handling are more important in racing.

Speed runs outdoors is fun for awhile, but gets old fast. Get your friends together and make a track out of 2X4's and race. You will find that racing will bring more satisfaction and purpose to spending the money. If your friends dont have one, have everyone take turns for the fastest lap or most laps in 4 mins. Get creative.

Notice how I said straightline speed only For the 01, from my experiences, the stock diff is horrible, and one wheel seems to get more power. The first upgrades I would do, are the carbon H palte and the ball diff as stated above. When you do upgrade the motor, I reccomend something like the x-speed, or something of the sort, that doesn't have craploads of power, as having a motor that is too powerful equals slower lap times, as explained under the "Just how important motors really are" thread.

Get an AWD Mini-Z, best handling car of all 1/28 scale series and great from the box. Plus, they can drift easier than the other types, if your into drifting that is. Only problem is you can't use MR02 bodies on AWD.

Wow...some interesting statements on this thread. One of the biggest differences is that the MR02 has a servo saver, and the MR01 does not. If you take a hard hit to the nose of your MR01 (i.e bombing down the street at high speed), you're very likely to strip your steering servo gears. Also, Kyosho doesn't make MR01 anymore...they've replaced it with the MR015, so parts are harder to come by. MR015 has the same chassis width (and battery config) as MR01, with the same electronics and upgrade parts as MR02. You can still find new MR01 ready sets, but I would not recommend buying one...they don't often sell for much less then the MR02/015 kits, and they are older technology all around. (getting a used one for cheap, is a different story all together).

With that said, these cars are too small and high-end for street bashing..your nice JGTC body will be in pieces in no time...followed by the suspension, and chassis, spur and pinion gears, etc. With mini Z you get the most bang for your buck when you tune them up for clean track racing. IMO if you want to bomb around on the street at high speeds, spend your money on an xmod- cheaper up front, and you can just run down to radio shack when you need to replace parts (which will be often)...you can always put a LION kit on to get that top speed. Better yet, get a 1/18 scale kit (i.e. RC18T)- they can handle rocks and curbs a whole lot better, and you won't be replacing broken parts every week-cost is about the same as a Mini Z ready set.

Mini-Z is not an out door car, you mentioned "in the street" ... if you run the car in the street, make sure there is not a single pebble or stone in the road... no cracks.. it must be glass smooth outside... or it will just get stuck on stones and cracks. The rear gear is less than 1mm from the ground on some of the chassis, and this gets worse when your tires wear out...
