choosing the perfect turbo...
ok, i'm planning to get a GPM motor... a few questions...
1. which GPM motor to u guys recommened? i need something good for everything.....
2. If i use a GPM turbo without a turbo kit at the moment, would it fry my mini-z?
2. when i get enough money for a turbo i want one that...
has short circut and overloading protection
Is NOT huge
a turbo that has forward and reverse
a turbo that would kinda take insane motors (just in case)
a turbo that would boost my power good......
which turbo do u think is THE one?
thanks!!!!!

greetings...
1. which GPM motor to u guys recommened? i need something good for everything.....
===> i've only tried gpm twin turbo-r and super turbo, i would reccomend the twin turbo
2. if i use a GPM motor without a turbo at the moment, would i fry my mini-z...
===> i'd say don't take the risk, some racers at the track said that gpm quality isn't very good, and some gpm motors fried the esc.... i've got a couple of gpm motors, i wouldn't want to run the risk of trying it without a turbo...
3. when i get enough money for a turbo i want one that...
has short circut and overloading protection
Is NOT huge
a turbo that has forward and reverse
a turbo that would kinda take insane motors (just in case)
a turbo that would boost my power good...... which turbo do u think is THE one? thanks!!!!!
===> unfortunately the twin turbo is a bit bigger than the super turbo, but i have mixed feelings about the super turbo (small enough to fit in the f-1) after putting the super turbo in my f-1 i experienced major steering glitches when i hit the brakes... took it out and put it in the regular z... same thing... thought it was defective, but other racers experienced the same thing as well...
why not try an x-speed.... then add a turbo... this in my opinion is the most reliable mix available here.... i just wish that i could get my hands on at least one of NML's motors...

what about the eagle super turbo?? i heard many good things about it being like a GPM twin-turbo...should i get that instead?
do u really think using a GPM motor is dangerous??? cuz i really need a motor faster then the X-speed and i can't get to one od NML's motors...so i guess the GPM motor is my only way out??
if it's not really dangerous...i'm planning to get a GPM motor first with the alloy motor mount..then when it's my birthday (march) i'll get a turbo kit.....
i need to know if or if not the gpm motor is dangerous when used alone without a turbo......and if i do use a turbo with it there wouldn't be any risk on frying my mini-z rite?

Do different brands of turbo really make a big difference. I have one coming by mail. It just says that it is a Super Turbo extra thin and high performance. Are brands like GPM and APEX better than other turbos? Should I expect a hugh difference once installed?
Thanks in advance!

Hello!
I Totally agree with "Herman" in the earlier post..
You should not use a sharp GPM motor without a Turbo installed..
However GPM has a motor that is called "High torque" and it has the same size and shape as the x-speed and it goes a little bit better, this motor we have tried and many here runs it without turbo and it works fine...
As for Turbo selection i say GPM Twin Turbo works best of the ones i have tried out... If you can live without reverse i say Kyoshos Turbo-B is the winner... Here is a list of turbos i have tested anyway...
GPM Super Turbo= Major difficulties and steering freakyness
GPM Racer Turbo= Works fine if you dont use a sharper motor
Kyosho Turbo-R = As bad as the Super Turbo
Kyosho Turbo-B= Really nice without reverse but powerful brakes

Turbos
I use a TLP Twin-Turbo, re-badged as the TopCAD.
It hasn't given me a single problem.
When I plugged it in for the first time, it just worked
I took the time to solder it directly to the power terminals as I feel confident enough about the product to make it a permanent fixture on my Mini-Z.
As for the 'perfect' Turbo, in my opinion, it would offer me the following:
Brand name
Good, clear English instructions
Small(ish) size
Reliability
Thermal and overload protection
Improvement in acceleration and torque
Good enough to handle hot, NML type motors
Brake and reverse.
It seems the only criteria mine doesn't meet is brake and reverse, as it only has the reverse function.
Other than that, to me it's the perfect Turbo, it meets my requirements and that makes me happy

I think the GPM racer turbo sucks
it wasn't good enough to save my ESC when I used it with a tamiya plasma motor =(

jagr, the Racer Turbo is the only one with no protection, so it shouldn't be used for applications like that.

yea i realised that after reading the fine prints on GPM's catalogue. Am I safe to say that the super turbo offers the protection like twin turbo does?
