MR01 electronics in MR02 chassis
Hello to everyone! I am new to the mini z scene , and I was wondering if anyone can help me out. What would I need to convert my MR01 to MR02? Can I just buy a MR02 chassis and put MR01 electronics and guts in it? I bought a used MR01 for cheap, but I like the lay flat config in MR02. Is it just more cost effective to buy a new MR02? Thanks everyone, sorry lots of questions!

the MR02 is very different...the servo is better with a servo saver, the rear pod is different, the board is different, the chassis battery configuration is different as they are flat.
My reccommendation is that you keep the 01 and just get an 02 as well. This way of you race you can race two classes and if you bash you will have a car for a friend to use too.

you have to buy all the chassis parts for an mr-02. Motor pod, small parts, tie-rod, knuckles and you have o use a washer in the servo for the servo saver and also the servo saver parts. There is quiet a list of stuff and I couldn't tell you everything you need without searching for you so do a search make a list and we can tell you what might be missing.

i tried this once, it just did not seem to work right, i hated the car, i recently bout an 02 F-50 from tower and i love this car, the only thing i have done to it are softer tires, bearings, carbon h-plates, and stff front springs, this thing kicked major a$$ last race day

it can be done, but I think you'de better sell the MR-01 and buy a new MR-02.

Thanks! Everyone has been very helpful. I think I'll probably do what you all suggested and just keep this and buy and MR02.

Hit This.
There is some stuff about converting over here. One word of warning, if you do not have a transmitter with servo reverse you will be into soldering some. If you got an 01 for cheap it can be done. Once done you can swap from an 02 to an 015 chassis easly.
One other thing, if the 01 has a large fet stack it can be a problem fitting into the 02 chassis. It may need to be redone to fit the tighter chassis. I added this because you said your 01 was used.

I have two that are set-up like this with absolutely no problem. I like it better in a way because I'm able to reverse right away when I hit the wall at times or if there is a collission. Not like the MR02 which has a slight delay on the reverse.
Approximate cost w/o rear motor mount (you'd probly want to get a PN Mid Mount anyway) is $28 - $30. plus shipping. Oh, and the body as well, unless you already have a long wheelbased MR01 body like the Supra or Corvette.

Thanks for everyone's help. So final call to list needed would be the following:
Kyosho (#MZF201C) Skeleton Chassis Set For MR02
Kyosho (#MZ203) Front Sus. Parts Set For MR02
Kyosho (#MZ205) Servo Saver Assembly For MR02
Kyosho (#MZ202) Small Parts for Chassis
These are it if I used the MR01 RM and custom H plate correct?

Thanks Hammer for the link and Zukor for the list. Hey NoMotorLimit, as far as MR01 vs. MR02 PCBs, do they have the same limit as far as amps and voltage. The local hobby here told me that the Xspeed has 40 - 45 turns, so I was wondering what amperage and turns I can get away with the MR01 PCB without FET upgrade. Sorry went out of topic, I just wanted to compare MR015 hybrid vs. MR02.

No problem, that thread I linked to is one that was started and run through back when the MR02 first came out. At that time a number of us found ourselves behind the eight ball when it came to parts. I don't think that is a big problem now as it was then.

Hammer Z is correct on this. Parts are avail. thru Tower and also Dikball
both PCB's use 3004's but I went ahead w/ 4562 (4x2) which did not give me any problem. As a matter of fact, in terms of how the pcb accepts the 4562 fets, I find the MR01 to work with these better. Sometimes the MR02 when turned on, runs by itself until the radio is tapped a bit.
Also, as long as its below 6 cells, I don't mind the MR01 PCB at all.

NoMotorLimit, 6 cells as in 1.2 volts X 6 cells = 7.2 volts... right??? So 2 Li-Polys shouldn't hurt, or would it? Everyone has been awesome in the forum - KUDOS to all!
