Big North East Regional ??? Ideas ?

Big Nor'East Regional thread... post suggestions here !

The idea is, what location is going to best suit all the Northeast MiniZ fans ?... what is the ideal format ?... who is willing to attend ?

I would think something like this could be held sometime around the Holidays, or in January to give us all time to prepare properly.

So far... Ohio seems to be a strong centralized location for everyone, but we need to know your opinions. And with our neighbors to the north wanting to participate... maybe an area more accessible around those puddles (Great Lakes) would be ideal. But keep in mind who all would want to attend, the current members would probably encompass the following states:

Michigan
Indiana
Ohio
Virginia
Pennsylvania
DC
New Jersey
New York
Connecticuit
New Hamsphire
Vermont

I'm sure there are Zers in the other states between... just don't know how active they are with the hobby.

Here's an old thread in the Judges forum dealing with this very subject:

i will still be racing down at the nekocon this november. it's a shame the idea died for using that as a regional.

you know you can count on me to attend a regional. with only 5 dc members in hfay, i don't know if any of the others from dc will travel?

as far as format, you could always pit club against club ie; qualifiers for each club and the top from each compete in a main(s)?

or just an all in hfay and see who comes out on top?

I would go to NYC or Northern Jersey for a regional but I don't thin I would go all the way to Ohio.

Would any of the DOW crew be willing to come down to nekocon in VA?

After having so much fun in Toronto, I'd love to be a part of another big race day/weekend.

Biggest things to try to figure out are:
1) who's interested
2) where
3) when

Adding a club/team aspect to the competition would make things even more interesting.

Personally I'm thinking January would be the soonest to get something together.

Why did it die out ?... I thought maybe you dropped the idea because I haven't seen any posts for it in a while.

Anyhow... location would be key for a huge GTG. We should all try to make it equal distance for as many participants as possible. If I stare at the map long enough... it starts to point to an area around northern Ohio, all the way up to around Niagra. Navigating around the one puddle adds alot of time for our Ann Arbor pals. I'm sure there is a more accurate way to determine a location, but when we do, someone needs to be there (or get there) to set it up.

We here at DOW probably have the most central location for the extreme Easterners... but I think that would cut out Ann Arbor for sure. I can get a gymnasium setup for us with one phone call.

I am willing to do whatever it takes, but if were gonna set a date... I want to be assured that people are going to come. My last GTG was free to all, I had a gymnasium filled with RCP, and 95% of the people there were locals... I just didn't seem to make sense.

But I am hopeful that one day, all of you MZR fanatics out there will see fit to get together on a bigtime GTG... and celebrate these little cars we all love so much ! (awwwww )

So... lets see how many respond to this post, and we'll go from there.

i dropped it due to general confusion about the concept, lack of any notion of commitment, and no one else seemed very interested at the time basically. good idea, bad timing i guess. anyhow, it's back under discussion and that's the important thing. i was chatting with atomic and kyosho for sponsorship to.... it just won't be at nekocon in november is all which is no big deal, just a missed opportunity.
