Motor question concerning capacitors...

Greetings...

Was wondering if capacitors are still needed on the 2.4ghz asf platform? Not much of an expert on the subject, and was wondering what their main function is...

I also took a pic of one of my motors... the capacitor has 2 legs, one is soldered to the can while the other is soldered on to the tab (connected to the brush) along with the motor wire... was wondering what would happen if the wire or tab would accidentally come in contact with the leg of the capacitor soldered to the can...

Caps like the 103 and 104 labeled Capacitors are soldered on brushed motors because as brushed motors wind up they create radio noise that can affect the receiver. The caps kill the noise. On 2.4gHz, using brushed motors, yes caps are still a good idea, but not 100% necessary.

The caps are soldered correctly in the photo. You do not want the + or - motor wires to touch the motor can. It will create a short and probably blow your FETs.

Hope this helps

Caps are recommended for 2.4ghz, but I do not use them unless there is interference. Some motors make more noise than others. The atomic 70t was particularly noisy and I always used caps on that motor.
