I would like to get your input on aaa battery dischargers. I made a discharger that safely discharges aaa's. The only concern I have is whether people are serious enough about their batteries. I personally don't care. I charge my nicads at full 1.95 - 2 amps. Life is not a concern for me.
How critical are you with your batteries?
Nimh are okay to be completely discharged every now and then.
Currently I only have 3 sets of NiMH AAA's for my car.
I charge each set @.5 amps
Then I run them until my car gets visibly slower.
Then I let them sit until I plan on running again then
I charge them back up.
Right now I'm putting together a discharger for my
cells NiMH and NiCd.
I have 2 sets of sanyo NiMH sanyo twicells to the car and a set of 1200 mah aa (dunno the brand) for the transmitter.
I really care about the life of my batteries so:
On the car i let them dcharge until the car can't move itself.
Then i hold the car in the air and make it dcharge a little more.
Then i wait a few minutes so the bateries are cold to put them safely on the charger.
On the transmitter i keep the til they reach the yellow light (its safe to drive) and then i put them on a lamp so they can dcharge 100%.

My chargers are very SLOW chargers (15h) so it results in longer batteries life.
NML, do you have a DC-power supply? A variable one? And a multimeter? If you do, I recommend that you try charging it at 3 amps and above. Remember to get some good cooling for your battery, a fan? A heatsink? And measure when the voltage starts dropping, that is when it's fully charged. Eh, I think you know about it already, I better not embarrass myself here.
Just to let you know, I have a AA battery at 1.63 volts before. Sanyo Cadnica 700. Tough battery!
my charger has a discharger built in... although i use nimh i discharge them until the light on the charger goes out.... but the batts are not completly dead, just enough to keep the batteries safe....
