NekoCon 11: November 7-9 2008
Nekocon 11 is rolling around, and this time I'd like to plan some events ahead of time. I have a lot of responsibilities during the convention, so I can help plan but I may not be able to help run the track all weekend. Soundwave should be able to work the track though.
I want to run some qualifying heats for the newbies on Saturday and then have a main event on Sunday. If there's enough interest this year from the miniz community, I'd also like to run some races for the pros. I'm going to see about getting trophies and prizes for these events, too. Shouldn't be a problem.
What kind of race events would you guys like? Aside from the track we'll have our normal events, video game rooms, dances, dealer's room, cosplay, etc. Plus some new and exciting stuff in the works that I can't talk about
We should be in Hall B again, with approximately 60'x60' of the room for us (the dots on the floor plan are 30' apart).

Well, let's figure out what we want to do with the time and space. We won't have the money to do some of the things I wanted to do, but I'm still planning on getting trophies and some prizes. I want to have two events, one for the pros and one for the ams. I'd like to give an amateur an RTR. Don't know what kind of prize the pros would like, other than a trophy.
What kind of race do we want to run? Unfortunately, we can't turn the lights out in Hall B, so we can't run a night course.

I had an idea of asking some other clubs to start up a Mid-Atlantic Points Series, or club tour. Three to four events per year, each one hosted by a different club in the mid Atlantic area.
I think this would be a great way for people to meet each other, cross pollinate skills and ideas, and have a good time.
The DCGTG hosts several events already.
SCRC's event would be Nekocon. It's really the only time we have the facilities.
Would Charlottesville, Dorks on Wheels, Charm City, or Hotwheels Hobby be interested in participating?

Nekocon has signed two musical acts for this year Echo Stream and making their North American debut, GPKISM. They'll be performing Friday and Saturday night.
On the Miniz front, we've got a lot more track, and a lot more cars. I've acquired two loaner cars for attendees to drive on on a separate track from the rest of us (Thanks, VAzRACER!). I'm going to get at least one more. I'm also going to buy an RTR to give away as a prize.
Unfortunately I'm running two departments this year and likely to end up in the fetal position and a catatonic state by Saturday. We could seriously use some more volunteers to help keep the cars rolling. Not asking anyone to loan out their own equipment, I'll provide that stuff. Just keep the cars moving as best you can and answers lots of questions from attendees. This is a great opportunity to promote miniz racing to a lot of people (especially since our attendance should jump this year as a result of having the musical acts). Volunteer staff get a free membership to the convention. Just work six-eight hours a day (and by work I mean play with minizs). If you can only make it one or two days, that's cool. If you need crash space, I can try to help. My wife and I have the staff suite at the hotel next door. I'm looking for two or three more people. I feel like I'm putting Arch on the spot because I won't be able to help out much
Still looking for feedback about what kind of event you guys would like to have here (if any). I can't get the group discount any lower (it's pretty low already) but we can offer a lot for that money. 12 hour enduro? No problem. Two days 12 hours each? Also no problem. Giant track? Okay. November's HFAY? Easy. We can do just about anything except turn off the lights.

Now that the PN East coast regional is in the books and with only the NCRC ALS charity event left to complete it is time to focus on the NEKOCON which will be held in early November. The 7-9th I believe. Here is a great opportunity to meet and compete with recers from up and down the coast in a low pressure yet wide open event designed to promote the scale and generally just have a good time.
We are hoping for a little involvement from the big K and anyone else that might want to contribute. We just need to remember that the event is to promote the hobby and particularly the scale.
For particular's about fee's and accommadations contact the host group. I am working on plaques for trophies. The format at this point is an open comp theme in ASC, F-1 and Pan. This could be altered to fit participation so if you are planning on or even think you might attend then please post those intent's here so that adjustments can be made if needed.
Thank's for the time and see you at the NEKOCON

We are trying to bring 3 or 4 people from the myrtle beach, sc area, so the sooner we have info, the better.

Racing will be Friday noon to 1am, Saturday 9am to 1am, and Sunday 9am to 3pm. Mleemor is running the main events, so I'll deffer to him for day/hours. We're working on a Motegi layout. I don't know how many sign ups we have right now.

I hope the organized racing takes place during some regular hours, lol. My wife wont be too happy if I drag her out of town and then leave her alone until the wee hours of the morning.

lol No, those are the hours the track is open. The events will, I'm sure, be during more reasonable hours.
