Any body On the east coast Fish?

I just Started surf fishing And I have no clue what i'm doing.
Well I know how to cast and tie knots and bait hooks and set up rigging but I don't know whether I'm supposed to keep reeling in the lure or let it sit and let the waves move it.

And my friend has been doing this for 2 years and hasn't caught one fish.
well he can't can't cast to well or seem to bait the hook to last more than one cast ,anways

Any suggestions.

And i'm going fishing tommorow if I catch anything i'll post pics.

If is a big word
WooT I just got my first ride a 95 4RUNNER Red

i haven't surf casted that much but i was taught to cast and reel it in a couple of feet at a time slowly. i plan on doing more fishing this summer i bought a permit that allows me to drive on most beaches on long island. here's a pic of my bronco at gilgo beach and good luck reelin'em in.

I fish, but havent done alot of surf fishing but from what i know is you are suspose to let it set and leave it out there. BUT you said you were using a lure(artifical bait) so yes then reel it in slowly

go deep sea fishing you are almost guaranteed to catch something if you choose the right charter fishing boat and when you do catch something those suckers are huge.
