My Skyline GTS build

Hi folks,

Just wanted to post a couple pics of a car I just finished building (but haven't raced yet), as it seems to be an unusual one. This is one of the few bodies I still rather liked but haven't tried (not into the Japanese pancake racer thing), so I decided to give it a whirl. I found it in some store in Japan. I seem to be becoming more of an 015 disciple the more I drive one. It's just so stable compared to the darty 02. I think EMU is totally right on this one, but I can't widen the front track to 02 specs though; body limitation...

This has Atomic slick R's for tires, 2 deg plastic knucks, the PN 90 mm mid motor mount, and a hand wound 35-turn in an Atomic M1 endbell. I went with the stock shock.

As I said, haven't tried it on the track yet, but will this coming Mon...

Looks Great! Such classic lines on that body and you can't go wrong with PN 90 mm motor mount. I bought an autoscale of this body when I was down in Cupertino. I was going to bring it to work, but maybe an MR015 is in my future.......

You'll be in for a roll man. This is probably the WORST mini-z combo ever and I never managed to tune mine to keep up with 02s here. So as a friendly heads-up: if you can't cure the horrible body roll when you push it 70-100%, its time to put that babe on a 03 and see what happens. I'll be doing that this weekend to my best ability.

interesting motor mount and looks pretty cool... wonder if there's a review on it's performance...

It's as SKV says; the body is really too narrow and high to be competitive. The problem is that the front can't be lowered enough to curb the traction rolling; there's just not enough room under the front fender flares to get it low enough to keep it under control, despite extensive dremelling.

I toyed with the idea of moving the whole body back on the chassis. As can be seen from the pics, that would move the front wheels forward in the wheel wells, which would allow the requisite lowering. However, that would mean shaving the front body mount clip, relocating the rear mount clips, shaving out the rear fender wells, etc. Too much work for me.

I put the thing back on the dummy chassis and it's sitting displayed on my shelf right now. Really good-looking body, but not a great racer without extensive modifications I'm afraid. Also, I'm afraid the build quality of the body is not quite up to Kyosho's standard either. Plastic on the body is thinner and not as strong as Kyosho's, paintwork not as durable. My front body mount clip was warped and needed some work....

I'm now running that chassis under an iWaver Porsche GT3 body I picked up on ebay, and it's much more competitive...

With weighing down the front end, with 90mm MM mount, nothing helped in the end. Watch this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09F5NVkbxZg .

IF anything, 03 is where this idea is at and I'll dig into testing as soon as I can. Also, can't believe I missed it, its GT-R man

Yep its a great looking body. I have two of them. But the rolls are very spectacular. I have mine mounted to an 02 with modified front end (mr015 width PN arms for the 02). The other mounted on a AWD both car runs great, but much better under the 02 and AWD but it will not be competitive with a other 02's and AWD that are wider and running 94, 98, 102mm wheel base. That car is nice when running a class specific race. Like a 86-90mm class with narrow bodies only and a stock motor. A 35 turn armature in a M1 style bell is way to much motor for that WB and that body. I have to run K40s on the front of my awd with glued side walls and with the 02 I run very low K30 on the font and K20 narrow rears on both (sometime I play around with K30 threaded narrow rears with the AWD). In short its a great looking car, have fun.

saw the vid... too bad it rolled too much...
i'm with cherub1m... it might have too much power on it...

for me if i experience any rolls, i would go with the hardest fronts i could handle... unfortunately though, you would have to deal with severe understeering issues...

so i guess it would be more of a compromise... understeering or rolling...
as weird as it sounds... you also might want to try softer front springs too...

hope this helps...

Its physically impossible to mount on a 02, so please indulge me as to how you managed to do that. It hugs AWD and 15 flush and 02 is 3-4mm wider than both of those.

The ONLY trick to running this body is the 03. It requires full counter to its concentrated and raised weight which can be either a huge ballast (which I'm not willing to do since it'll just drag the whole thing down) or a chassis with the low battery layout and appropriate width.

Well, on 03 its still a crappy body. I'll cross my fingers on reflex kingpins and 90MM mount...
