We need an R/C Glossary in this fine forum.
Greetings Moderators
I didn’t find a thread to post suggestions, so I thought this would be the right place to post it.
It would be of a great help to many members, to have an essay excess Glossary for R/C terms, which includes different name or synonymous used for the same words, as well as, its meanings and in some cases an illustration.
BTW, if there is no suggestions box, it would be nice to have one to.
Thanks in advance, for your cordial attention to my suggestion & request, in rank to improve this forum.
Have a great day!
Cheers
I've been going through and over time have gotten a knack for reading the abbreviations, and RC related Jargin and whatnot. I figured I would get this thread started for any Noobs out there. I only have a short list off the top of my head, please feel free to chime in if you have any more to add or if any are incorrect. I'll edit as more are added.
ABC - Aluminum Brass Chrome
AM - Amplitude Modulation, a form of radio signal most frequently used in low-end and RTR transmitter/receiver sets. More susceptible to interference glitching than FM.
ARTF - Almost Ready To Fly
ARTR - Almost Ready To Run
ASC/ AE - Team Associated/ Associated Electronics
AWD - All Wheel Drive
BB - Ball Bearing
BEC - Battery Eliminator Circuit
BL - Brushless
C- Capacity of a lipo battery
##C - Continuous discharge rating of a battery,
the number indicating how many times the nominal capacity (e.g. 4000mAh 20C would support 20*4000mA = 80000mA =80A continous discharge)
CC - Castle Creations
COG - Center Of Gravity
CT - Counting Thread (represnt'n) < JK
CVD - Constant Velocity Driveshaft
DSM - Delta-Signal Modulation, a signal encoding methodology used in some 2.4Ghz radios such as those from Spektrum RC.
DSSS - Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum, a radio transmission/receiving methodology used in some 2.4Ghz radios such as those from Futaba.
EPA - End Point Adjustment
ESC - Electronic Speed Control
FASST - Futaba Advanced Spread Spectrum Technology
FF - Front motor Front drive
FHSS - Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum, a radio transmission/receiving methodology used in some 2.4Ghz radios such as those from Sanwa/Airtronics.
FLM- Fast Lane Machine, Aluminum chassis making company
FM - Frequency Modulation, a form of radio signal used in pro-level transmitter/receiver systems and some higher-quality RTRs. Cleaner signal than AM, less susceptible to wayward interference.
FUBAR - F'd Up Beyond All Recognition
FWD - Front Wheel Drive
GC - Ground Clearance
HSN - High Speed Needle
IIRC - If IRecall Correctly
IMO - In My Opinion
IMHO -In My Honest Opinion
JK - Just Kidding
KV - RPM/Volt on any brushless motor, 'K' (meaning "constant") and a subscript 'v', denoting it as the "voltage constant" i.e. a constant (linear) value per volt. 3000Kv is 3000 (unloaded motor rpm) per volt.
LED - Light Emitting Diode
LHS - Local Hobby Shop
LI-PO - Lithium Polymer
LSN - Low Speed Needle
LVC - Low Voltage Cutoff
MA - Mid motor All wheel drive
MG – Metal Gear
MM - Mamba Max
MMM - Monster Mamba Max
MR - Mid motor Rear drive
MSC - Mechanical Speed Control
MT – Monster Truck
NIB – New In Box
NICD - Nickle Cadium
NIMH - Nickle Metal Hydride
NIP – New In Package
NNIB – Nearly New In Box
OWB: One Way Bearing
POS - Piece Of ****
RC - Radio Control
RFI – Radio Frequency Interference
RR - Rear motor Rear drive
RTF - Ready To Fly
RTR - Ready To Run
RWD - Rear Wheel Drive
RX - Reciever
SW - SideWinder
TIA - Thanks In Advance
TRX - Traxxas
TTT - To The Top
TX - Transmitter
UBEC - Ultra Battery Eliminator Circuit
WOT- Wide Open Throttle
X-Tal - Crystal
2WD - Two Wheel Drive
2S - Two-cell LiPo battery
3S - Three-cell LiPo battery
4WD - Four Wheel Drive
4WS - Four Wheel Steering
Great job everyone, keep em coming if you got more that aren't up already.
