Cool

the mini racing world divides itself into 2 categories: kyosho and the others
stay with the best.............. don't worry about the others........

I moved the Thread because it's not connected to the Monster

For more info on the Venom Mini-Giant, click here as we have a Mini-Giant Forum at YourMicro.com

There are also two threads on this subforum. I also have comparison photos in my Gallery. As far as "recently" picking up a Mini-Giant for $99.00, I've only came across that price at RCX. Myself, I ended up paying $124.99 which included shipping, but have seen it at full retail of $179.99. Shop around.

I'm waiting for the PTI micro monster truck instead. Way cooler than the venom. Should be out in a couple of months.

I highly recommend the Mini Giant. Kyosho makes some nice stuff, but to say they are the best period is quite a stretch. In fact, it could be argued they don't make the best small scale R/C at all, they've just marketed it more heavily and effectively than anybody else. I especially am not impressed with the Mini Monster, it's just an OL on steriods. The OL is great for scale looks and scale performance (I have two myself) but a monster truck screams, "ABUSE ME" and when you abuse the Mini Monster it screams uncle. The Mini Giant has 4WD, can much more easily be customized by those that are creative and handy and can handle far more abuse. It is larger, but still small enough to use indoors. The Tamiya TLT and the PTI are a bit to large for my tastes, definately not indoor vehicles unless you have a rather large room.

Who told you that? I stopped by the PTI booth at the 2003 Hobby Visions convention held last year held here in Las Vegas and was informed that December 2003 was the release date. This year I stopped by the PTI booth at 2004 RCX, and the PTI reps wouldn't even talk about the PTI MT other than to tell me it was still in the tooling stages. Granted, the PTI MT is now "only" 6 months past due since I was informed it should have been out the first time.

The PTI micro monster seems to be nothing more than urban legend.
Sure, we've seen the protoypes, but looking at the design, that will not come in cheap at all.
As this is a price sensitive market dominated by mass production, I honestly doubt PTI will ever release their version of a Micro monster.

Venom Mini Giant

We'be been discussing this prodcut at YourMicro for some time.
Mini-Z and I are a little concerned about the lifespan of this product. As the Venom is nothing more than a re-badged product, we don't quite know how long it will be around as it isn't manufactured by a reputable RC company a-la Kyosho, Tamiya, Losi etc..

Just my 5c worth, other than that, it looks a little like a toy to me and I'd rather invest the extra money on a Tamiya TLT-1

No kidding, who makes it? I was drilling the dude at RCX at the Venom booth and he really did not know that much about the truck so I am not really suprised.

A Korean company called A-tech makes it. I wouldn't let that stop you from buying it, there are situations like that through the R/C industry, in fact about the only cars actually made by the companies that badge the cars are the Asian companies like Tamiya and Kyosho. Most of the American companies have been relegated to just being engineering firms, very few actually manufacture their own cars. Venom didn't even engineer the Mini Giant, but I beleive the Mini Giant has the potential to have a very large following, similar to the Clod Buster. Time will tell for sure, and it will be a slow start because it is so new, but even Kysoho had to start somewhere. For me anyways, the Mini Monster wasn't even an option, it doesn't impress me the least bit, it's just an OL with larger parts. The Mini Giant is IMO the only true Mini scaled monster truck out there.
