Extending the radio range

Hey.. I tried to extend the radio range... It kind of worked but I am wondering if there is a better way. I removed the stock metal antenna and took a Scrap Traxxas reciever wire off an old reciever from my Stampede, Chopped it. And soddered it on to the Mini Z.. It kind of works but Now i have some breaks in it and i have short range..

Has anyone found out a good way to extend the radio range using the stock electronics?

Thanks!

Just how far away do you need to control your Z? -- the range already goes so far that the car is so small you cant even tell what way its facing... provided u can find a parking lot smooth enough to do this as I have.

Isn't there a hole in the back of the radio that allows you to turn a little pot with a screw driver to increase radio range?

The best and only way to extend the range of the wireless (in this case) is to change the antenna to a longer one.

Easiest way is to increase the length by 50% or double the length of the original antenna. This will improve the range.

Another way is to get the wavelength of say 26MHz, wavelength is 454.15 inches. Keep on dividing it by 2 till you get a length that could be used. In this case it will be abt 7 inches. You could try having a 7" antenna (vertical height) and see if your reception is improved. Of course, other factors like VSWR or interfernce from nearby sources should be taken in consideration but I think we could safely ignore.

old thread...

I was wondering if its easily possible to extend the range on mini-z cars like monster. Thinking in the neighborhood of 1000ft. Specifically I wanted have the car beyond line of sight and drive using a camera transmitting video.
